Shawnee Prairie Preserve is Darke County Park’s largest park. There are currently about 2.25 miles of level trails that wind throughout the different ecosystems of the 118-acre park. Benches and observation towers at different points along the trails make visiting the park more enjoyable for visitors who wish to spend some time observing the plants and wildlife within the preserve. A boardwalk provides access to a portion of the trails. Park Hours: Trails are open dawn-dusk daily Nature Center is open Monday-Saturday 9a-5p

Walking trails are clear and easy to follow. Prairie flowers in season and nice woods areas. Nature center provides interesting facts about the area.

Took some international guest here to see the local natural environmental and historical aspects of our area. No one offered any explanation of what was to be seen at the preserve or how and where the trails went.More

We're sorry to hear you felt at a loss. Both the Nature Center and the trails are by nature a self-guided experience. At the least, I would have hoped one of my Naturalist educators or the front desk volunteer on duty would have offered you...More

Walking the grounds, watching the birds from the window, enjoying a picnic near the sugar or by the museum are all lovely day opportunities. For a small woods, there are lots of trails to wind around. A great place to walk and feel the outdoors...More

The Shawnee Prairie has some really nice trails you can walk. they also have a building you can tour. Really liked the walking paths.

Great trails for roaming, plenty of area to explore. A great way for families to get in touch with nature. Also has a cute gift shop with many local products.

Shawnee Prairie is a hidden gem in the Greenville/Darke County area. It is located just outside the city limits. They have trails, bird watching, maple syrup tapping, and other activities thru-out the year. But the best time is in September during Shawnee Prairie Day weekend....More

We came for one of the Prairie's meals they re create using authentic recipes and they even use the authentic cooking methods to prepare and serve it. This meal is just one of the many things they put on. They have a lot for children...More

Many groups and leader led seminars and meetings. All the activities have been nature inspired and science educating. From kids to adult related hands on participation all events are inspiring.

It has an easy walkway thru the preserve. It has many birds and creatures to see. They count birds in the area and have displays to walk thru in the main building.

no charge. This is a free event. Bears Mill is also having a lighted event and there is carriage rides (free) in downtown.
