As an ex-amateur racing driver I wasn't expecting eight laps in an Aston Martin Vantage to be much fun as I have done hundreds of laps around Silverstone in all kinds of cars, but it was a gift from someone and I felt I had to do it. To my surprise, as soon as I was out on track with instructor Perry Brewer I settled into the car and was encouraged to drive quickly and safely up close to the limit. Within a lap I found a grin on my face I hadn't experienced since my racing days. Perry knew exactly what I was doing (and what I could do) and deftly guided me through the other cars with clear direction and a calm head. Although we were quick, at no time was there anything but sublime control of a supercar at high speed and I would highly recommend this experience to advanced drivers (as well as beginners of course) because the instructors will know if you can drive. If you can drive, they will encourage you to do so. Well done guys, I left the circuit feeling like I had done a twenty minute club race in a £100k Aston Martin, except that it was a lot more fun for a lot less money! With special thanks to Perry and Hamish.

I did the £99 Aston Martin experience.

Driving an Aston Martin at Silverstone was even better than I had expected!

It was the instructor who really put the icing on the cake (car 03 on 26.09.20 in case anyone reads this).

Getting there was fine, being in the right place at the right time was reasonably straight forward and the anti covid procedures were taken seriously.

I had heard that you were strongly discouraged from driving fast at these events. Not a bit of it, I was encouraged to drive as fast as I could.

There are reviews where people complain that the instructor has the mirrors and is over bossy. All I can say is that I had enough to do trying to drive a 500hp Aston Martin around Silverstone as fast I could without worrying about the mirrors; and the instruction is what made the experience.

My instructor was friendly, enthusiatic and inspired confidence. He genuinely wanted me to do as well as I could.

If you think what it must cost to hire the instructors, hire the track at Silverstone, provide Aston Martins, petrol, tyres maintenance etc., £99 for 6 high speed laps seems like a bargain.

Can't wait to go again.

Took my dad to Silverstone for his Astin Martin Experience which we had gotten him for his birthday.

On arrival there were Stewards who directed you on where to drive around the outside of the circuit to the car park next to the section called the Wing. All Stewards we met were welcoming and professional.

Once we had parked up we were directed into the main building. There are steps up to the entrance and also a large lift which was pointed out to us by the Stewards.

Once inside, dad had to go an book in with the main desk, confirming his details and the time he would be taken for his driver briefing.

Photos and an in car video can be purchased from the waiting area - if you want the in car video, you must book this before you go for the driver briefing as they give you an sd card to fit inside the machine in the car. The in car video cannot be done after you have driven.

After the driver briefing, family and friends were collected and taken down to the Pit area.

Drivers got 3 laps in their chosen car and family and friends can stand next to the track to take photos as they whizz past them.

Fantastic day out and one my dad will never forget

I had to wait over a year for this experience because of heavy bookings prior to Covid and then wait until they reopened once again.

My wife who did all the phoning to arrange and then rearrange the experience found the customer service in general and communication poor for an organisation such as Silverstone.

Having now booked it with a set date and time, which they got wrong first of all as we had paid for a later start time and they gave us first slot in the morning. They then looked back and confirmed we had paid for a later start time so changed it. We were getting quite close to demanding a refund but decided to proceed.

The arrival and booking in process was done well and hats off for that. The briefing by Duncan was excellent and led me to believe this was going to be a great experience.

Once down into the Pit Area things looked a bit disorganised with people not quite knowing who should do what in terms of Covid safety protocols. Once that was sorted there was a lot of waiting around bearing in mind that the experience was advertised as being two and half hours. So my 1.15 booking was finished just after 3pm.

I was booked to experience the BMW M2, Ferrari 430, Aston Martin Vantage. The BMW M2 instructor was nice and helpful having shown me on a flying lap what the car was capable of. The trouble is to drive full out having never driven on a racing circuit in a car that most people never would drive is not easy and felt it was more like a conveyor belt of drivers.

As each car is so different a flying lap by each instructor would have been more helpful instead of plonking you into a car that most people would never have been in before with such things as paddle shift which I would think would not be natural to the majority attending. Or even better assigning you one instructor for all three cars would have made it more personal and not felt you were a conveyor belt of people.

Also 3 laps is a sleight of hand as you don't actually do 3 complete laps as you miss the last corners and the straight because on leaving the pits on the first lap you are already a quarter of the way round and on the final lap you enter the pits before the final corners.

It sort of fizzled out after the last drive with no one asking you how was it or conversing in any way between each drive only to tell you which car you were driving next. It would have been nice to get some feedback instead of a patronising you did really well which you know was a standard answer.

I am an instructor/coach in another sport and I would certainly not have frustration in my voice if my pupil did something wrong and after correcting the problem still did it wrong. That is the nature of learning and helps students improve more by giving helpful but direct feedback to help correct any issues. As soon as degree of frustration creeps into the tone no improvement occurs in some cases the opposite happens.

If I was asked if I would recommend this to a friend at the moment I would say not. They need to do some work on changing a few things first to make it what it says a Supercar Experience so that encompasses everything not just the driving of the car.

Hi Paul, Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback on your experience with us. We’re really sorry to hear that some elements of the day did not meet your expectations and would like to take the time to address some of the points raised. We appreciate that the re-booking process was at times complex. Working with a reduced team and with ever changing guidance we had to adapt our usual booking processes to try and ensure a fair process, which also allowed all customers ample opportunities to rebook their experience. Thank you for bearing with us during this process. We’re happy to hear that your arrival was smooth, as we have again had to implement a host of new processes to keep all attendees and staff as safe as possible. Duncan is a very valued member of the Drive team and it’s great to know you enjoyed the briefing with him. It is a concern to hear that the Safety Protocols we have adopted in the Pit Lane were not clearly described for you. We have put a great deal of effort into these measures and took time to ensure that our staff were comfortable and confident with the requirements. This is something which we will address with our delivery team prior to our next experience days, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our Supercar Experience continues to be one of our most popular experiences, the advertised 2.5 hours is the time which you should expect to be on site with us. However, due to the reduced number of participants allowed under current guidelines the waiting times between each vehicle are reduced, which at times will result in slightly less time spent on site. We are currently reviewing the way our experiences are run, and a consideration is that a customer would be paired with one instructor throughout their drives, so it’s good to hear that this is something which you feel could be effective. Our Instructors are all ARDs professionals who are involved in the development of our experiences and truly want to ensure that all attendees have the best possible experience. We appreciate that for many driving a supercar at the home of British motorsport is often a new experience and it is the mission of the whole team to ensure that the experience exceeds expectations from start to finish, on behalf of the entire team we’re sorry that on this occasion this wasn’t the case. We would again like to thank you for your specific feedback on the experience, we are currently looking into every aspect of our event and feedback such as this will be vital in developing Drive Silverstone going forward.

I checked online availability and picked a date. I then emailed this date and my Virgin voucher number, as this is how I was instructed to book. Over a month later I received an email saying that date was fully booked and I'd have to pick a date when it's cold and wet in October or November instead. If they don't extend the voucher into next year I will probably seek a refund from Virgin.

I bought the Ferrari experience as a gift for my husband and it was perfect from start to finish. Every member of staff from the wardens in the car parking areas to the staff in the Museum (we visited the museum before the drive) were friendly, helpful and welcoming. James (the instructor that was guiding the drive) was brilliant and made the experience even better for my husband.
The Covid situation is well managed with plenty of disinfecting of equipment and car interiors etc between each person driving.
I cannot recommend this experience enough, I can only maybe recommend booking directly through the Silverstone experience website as it seems to be more problematic when involving a 3rd party (judging by other reviews)

Being a big F1 fan I was beyond excited when I got this experience as a gift. Before you get in the car you get a short introduction about what to expect then a small video which breaks down the track.

After being advised driving will never be the same again you then pick up who ever joined you and drive to the experience

You’re quickly provided with a helmet and off to the car.

You do a few laps behind a pace car, they show you the best route and when to break and then it’s on your own

It was an amazing experience so why only 3 stars? Unfortunately there is 11 other drivers on track and only 2 overtaking spots so you can quickly have your experience ruined by others if they are not too confident or spin their car off the track. For the cost you would hope there wouldn’t be as many people or you get longer so you have a greater chance to improve as it quickly flies by

Other than a great day out, and would recommend to anyone.

Some of the worst customer care I've ever experienced. Bus driver went on break without any indication leaving us late for our session - only staff we encountered told us just to wait for the bus to come along. When it finally does and we go to check in, lo and behold we're told we're late for our session and will have to wait 2 hours for another chance! With animals at home this meant the spectators would have to leave before the session. We explained the situation to the customer service team, who offered zero apology, zero accountability, zero remedy. Not even the offer of a video or photo package so the spectators (who had bought the experience as a gift for us) could at least witness it later. Rather than being mature about it, the staff ended up getting heated with us, stating they were "drawing a line under it", and offering us... the chance to talk to the head of the bus drivers!

Another friend of ours had his morning session cancelled with little more than a "sorry about that" the same day.

The customer team I'm sure were frustrated themselves as it seems they are completely without power to help their customers. Management - take heed and sort this out. More leeway, more communication, more power to your staff. An experienced badly soured, and I'll recommend friends try Castle Combe (where I've heard great things) in future.

I attended the Silverstone Single Seater Experience and it was an absolute blast. I've waited a while to "cash in" this gift after numerous delays due to the pandemic. It's also a good 1.5 hours drive to get there, so you really want it to be great - and it was!

Arriving, the marshals directing you where to go were all chatty, smiley and helpful. The briefing before the drive was excellent with the right balance of humour and seriousness. Then on to the Stowe circuit. Everything felt very covid-safe - plenty of sanitiser, disposable gloves to drive with, and disposable balaclavar (which has also made a neat souvenir).

The drive was fantastic. After a few laps behind the safety car getting a feel for the acceleration and braking there was an opportunity to really open up. Ours was a wet session, and while you maybe didn't get a sense of all the raw pace available on a dry track, it gave a whole new perspective to what racers must feel in a wet race... the spray kicked up off the car ahead, trying to pick your braking spot with poor visibility, the tyres locking up under braking, other drivers spinning in front of you... it felt like glorious, realistic chaos and I loved every minute.

My main reflection after the event was that I've definitely picked the wrong career.

This was a fantastic experience, facilitated by real people, by which I mean racing drivers, enthusiasts and instructors.
If you want to be allowed to push a car to the limit of your abilities then it is ideal.
If you want to be cosseted into having a nice fast drive in a fast car then perhaps a Porsche showroom is more appropriate.
Overall well organised, fantastically friendly and professionally executed but sufficiently laidback to prevent nerves kicking in too much.
You are never made to feel you are a lesser mortal even when you overcook a corner.
Thanks especially to Perry (probably not his real name) with the clown mask and the maniacal laughter - or was it nervous relief.
Get the full video package - i can't stop watching it.
Must do it again soon.
