Fab place to browse (a vast number of) books in a converted railway station building! Plenty of seating and comfy chairs around open fires all add to the atmosphere of the place and that is before you see and hear the toy trains running around the tops of some of the book cases! A good cafe and warm 'waiting room'... More

We called in here - to be honest wanted to go in for ages. What a lovely place - we had never seen so many used books. Loved the model train by the way...

What a lovely place to spend an hour browsing their huge selection of literature and reference books in this wonderful location. Long may they prosper.

Barter Books, as I've mentioned in previous reviews of this establishment, is one of my favourite haunts to go to. There's a nice cosy feel to it, and anyone who is fond of books like me, its pretty much the Mecca of second hand book shops. It doesn't have that clean, clinical feel of chain shops like WHSmiths, but it... More

Barter Books is exceedingly popular with local people and tourists alike - a huge second hand book shop located in the fine architectural space of an old railway station. One can spend hours in here enjoying not only the incredible collection of books (including first editions) but also the warm and cosy atmosphere. Real fires add to the ambiance especially... More

OMG--this place is idyllic! What a treat to be there at Christmas. Warm fires, hard to find books and first editions, quotations to make you think--and festive lights. I want to just move in and live here, surrounded by books and warmth. I make the trek here a couple of times a year and always spend more than I mean... More

Although we had viewed the website nothing could have prepared us for the reality of this fantastic place. Unfortunately we couldn't stay mire than a couple of hours this time but we will definitely be back.
