As the name suggests, this is very much a local museum. Lots of interesting material on display, but could do with some work to help visitors find their way into the material and give it some context

Thank you for your review, Yes, our intention is very much to be a local museum centering on the hidden history of its inhabitants. We have uncovered some amazing stories from seemingly ordinary folk and we hope you enjoyed them. Can you tell us more about what you mean by "it needs some work to help visitors find their way... Fascinating little museum. Although it features items of local origin, it is nevertheless of interest for ‘outsiders’ as well. There are hands-on exhibits and recorded interviews with locals; it’s a good mix of traditional displays and imaginative use of technology. It is really worth a visit if you are staying at the Blue Bell around the corner – learn about... More

Thanks for taking time to write a review, Niel. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. The combination of traditional displays and technology seems to work. We are fortunTe in receiving several donations of items from local people. Our aim is to tell the extraordinary life stories of ordinary people. Come again if you can! More

Thank you very much for your review. Pleased you found our museum interesting. As you say, there is lots to see and most visitors don,t have time to see everything. If it means a return visit is made then so much the better! Do come again when you can as the exhibitions are constantly changing. In January we will have... More

A low-key museum located just off the square in Belford. It's the sort of place where you could lose yourself for hours if you like old-fashioned museums (and by old fashioned I mean lots of information, lots of photos, exhibits in cases). There were lots of tales of the folk who lived in Belford over the years, the farming history,... More

Thanks for your review! It is the first time we have been called old-fashioned -we do like to use modern technology in the way of our touch screen about the village and our listening post for recorded interviews with local people. Experience proves that visitors love traditional display boards with information and cases with labelled exhibits. Most visitors stay much... More

Very quaint couple of rooms telling the story of real people's lives and newspaper cutting and articles to support the stories

Brilliant little museum, great local history and small exhibits to show times gone by, great little room for an interactive map to compare the village from past to the present! Also has a snooker table which is a lovely idea for locals and visitors alike to enjoy a friendly game, well worth a visit!

Was staying just outside the town and had driven past many times. Today we decided to visit and so glad we did. The information was very interesting and clear to read. There were things for children to do, finding the answers etc. Whilst there we bought a town trail and walked this afterwards, took about 45 minutes. If you like... More

Such a good idea. Lots of community memories. This year the exhibition featured 1916; next year it will feature 1917. Varied exhibits including war memorabilia, local history and clothing. There was no-one there at all when we visited, but a board to record any comments or questions was a good idea.

Thank you for taking the time to do a review . This is a small village, a small museum and we have a small team of volunteers so our displays stay up for a year before changing. Many of our visitors are tourists and we hope they learn something about our village by visiting the museum. Hope you,ll come again! More
