    Day visit to Paxton House
I went to Paxton House with my son for the day.’we had a lovely lunch which was reasonably priced. We went on some lovely walks and my son enjoyed going in the play park. We would definitely return to Paxton house again.
Thank you for such a great review- I will be sure to pass on your feedback about lunch to the tearoom team!

    Very good
The tour of the house was very good and the lady tour guide was very knowledgeable and made it an interesting and pleasant experience. The only drawback was that we we had to make a very long detour ,as the road to Paxton House from Berwick, was closed due to roadworks. I do feel that the people at Paxton House could have sent an email to warn us that we would need to take the detour. Fortunately we had set off in plenty of time so we just made it for the tour of the house. The signage was very poor and the sat nav wasn't very helpful. Had to use old fashioned map reading skills to get there . Having said all that the house , tour and grounds are worth a visit.

    Chipendale Overload
Booked online for guided tour. Was very rushed, would have preferred to read some of the information in each room but were rushed into next room. Far too much detail by guid about the chipendale furniture in every room, would rather have known more about house/room, people or history. Then when tour finished we went to get photos of house & tour the gardens however there was a wedding and the guests had started arriving. We felt uncomfortable trying to take pictures in-between them so we just left. Bit disappointed would not recommend.

    Great day out
We had a great Time visiting Paxton House. The guided tour was well worth paying for, our guide Jim was very very knowledgeable. The grounds are smaller than we expected, but still ok to walk round. The cafe was very pleasant snd the food was very tasty. All the staff we're very friendly and made you feel very welcome.

Save your money, and go elsewhere
After years of being promoted and positively reviewed, I felt obliged to visit Paxton House, particularly having made many visits to big stately homes with lengthy, interesting histories over the years, such as Cragside, Wallington Hall, or Chillingham Castle. First impression was of a nicely presentable place with decent parking. The positive impression was immediately shattered by the encounter of the rude member of staff behind the front desk, delivering her rubik's cube complex description of what was on offer, with a delivery and tone that conveyed impatience and indifference. The choices were this, ground access of £7 or house tour £14. Went with the lower offer of visiting the grounds, and it seems this was the better option, because when you see the house on the outside, I'm not sure what would justify paying double for going into it? The map provided at the front door is all that is available for guidance around the estate, which requires you taking a photograph of for reference. The map itself is somewhat deceptive, because it implies the route you can take from the house to Union Bridge is accessible but be reassured the bridge is accessible but its over a dirt track that is hazardous and a potential death trap that easily see you fall into the Tweed if one is not careful. Walking around the estate, what was on offer does was very disappointing, and I would not recommend this place to anyone who has travelled to the area for long distance visits. Save your money, and go elsewhere. Venues in Northumberland are much better.

Found much to like at PH, however parts of outside look very shabby. The tripwire for the kids looked in need of attention. . Many areas around the house needed weeding

    Good value for money.
We were a bit wary at first because the gardens and woodland walks were ok but a lack of any decent sign posting meant it was pot luck where you ended up. I suggest a finger post sign, maybe by the courtyard, would help clarify things. We booked to go on the house tour and our guide was a lady called Carol who was excellent. Her intimate knowledge of the family history and the house contents was second to none and she had exactly the right blend of knowledge and humour. The interior of the house is superb, and coupled with the excellent Carol , makes for good value for money. Well worth a visit.

    Disappointing.
Disappointed. House felt unloved and rather dreary. Tour did not give enough time to read all the information boards provided. Would have preferred to go around at our own pace. Staff helpful and friendly.

    Not the best for wheelchairs!
Beautiful house in beautiful grounds. If you are able bodied a great place to visit. Extremely knowledgeable house guides who give great insight into the history of the house. The house (not the grounds) is very accessible for wheelchair users just the top floor not available, however a video can be watched with those rooms detailed on screen, while the more able visit those rooms. The not so good points: not much info on accessibility on the website. The grounds are not suitable for wheelchairs, mostly grass and shingle. Part of the house tour resulted in me dragging my mom backwards over shingle to the anex of the building where the kitchen is located. The grounds are extensive and looked beautiful but unfortunately not accessible to us at that time due to having my mom in her wheelchair.

    Average afternoon
Visited alone, didn't have a lot of time and was Initally unsure whether my time restraint would affect my visit The Tour was booked up by time I got there but the tour guide let me join as I didn't have time to wait for next tour and I was on my own. No option to walk around independently which was a shame as inside the house whilst the guide was very informative about the lifestyle and functionof the house, lots of the artefacts had information cards beside them, but unfortunately had no time to read them The tour took us through a VERY small portion the house and ended In the gallery where you could look at rh family portrait a for the last 20mins of the tour. The whole your was only 1hr 30 mins. Grounds at this time year where very poor appreciate it's almost winter. But after being to other gardens the day before these were sadly neglect. My time restraint didn't affect the visit in fact my few the few hours I had was more than ample and ibwas left with time to spare before I had to leave for Berwick town

We had an amazing time. So much effort had been put into making it look quite magical. The children met Bingo the Elf from jag art 82 and he was just super. We ended up at the cafe with delicious cake and coffee

Me, my wife and little lad went along to the art afternoon with James, Jan & Ian. They were great, very friendly and welcoming. We had a right laugh and had a fantastic time, really enjoyed ourselves with great company. I would recommend to anyone, any age to check it out and get involved. Thank you so much.

We booked onto one of the organised tours with an experienced guide who was knowledgable and entertaining throughout. The house had many different rooms to be shown around, including many ornate pieces of furniture. The grounds are large with children’s play area. We stayed at the caravan/motorhome site in the grounds. Really good value for money all round.

We went to an art afternoon with James and Jan, we had actually gone on the wrong day for the drop in (and we were late), but they made us feel so welcome and found a painting for us to do which saved the day. The Hay loft is a bright beautiful space at Paxton, perfect for creative work. Thank you to our kind and understanding hosts, and also to the lovely cafe waitress who helped us when we arrived in a fluster.

A couple of days late but I wanted to say a huge thank you to James from JAG ART 82 and Paxton House for the fantastic opportunity for My boys to enjoy creating their own Princess of Paxton ted!

With James help, The boys created their own little ted, gave him colour, character and finally names!

With a superb cafe, great cake and coffee, glorious walks for the dog, play ground the kids adore, Paxton has a bit of everything for a day out.

Thank you to both Paxton and James for a wonderful experience!! I’ll definitely be looking out for more fun activities to do there!

The visit was brought to life by our guide. It felt a real privilege to be walked through the interior of this Palladian Mansion, and to explore its history and the secrets held within. The intimacy of the tour, facilitated by the expert guide, contrasted perfectly with the freedom to explore the grounds and gardens, excellent shop and cafe; lunch was excellent, quality fare and good value. All in all an excellent day out and a unique experience to explore a Scottish jewel.

We visited Paxton House during the half term holiday with our daughter, her husband and thier two young children aged 7 and 4. We were staying in a nearby cottage and had searched online for things to do which were suitable for children. Paxton House comes up in this search. Although Paxton House is charming and worth a visit, in my opinion, it is not suitable for children. As National Trust members, our grandchildren are used to visiting historical properties but the tour was far too boring for them. It requires standing still and silent for long periods in each room before being led into the next without actually seeing much. It was quite stressful trying to keep them interested and quiet. In fact it was impossible to follow what the guide was saying. As a previous reviewer stated, it would have been more enjoyable to tour the house independently at our own pace and read the information boards etc. I have to say that despite this, our grandsons were both very good and well behaved but I feel the staff could have tried to engage them a little. I only knew about the hidden teddy bears from another reviewer. It was never pointed out to us. This was the only thing that interested them.

We purchased a family pass and two senior passes for the house and grounds so our grandsons could enjoy the Halloween trail. Unfortunately, we had to abandon that as the weather was dreadful. Our tickest cost £60 which included an unexpected £3.40 booking fee for actually booking it myself so we definitely did not get out money's worth.

Fortunately, the day was saved by a visit to the Hayloft where the JagArt82 team, who are resident artists, hold sessions. James and Jan were so kind and wonderful with our grandsons and they thoroughly enjoyed painting their bears for the competion and having their photograph taken with Paxton Ted.

The guide who took a group on the guided tour was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and able to pass on her knowledge making the subject, Paxton House, come to life through the ages. From ordering the tickets online to the entrance Paxton House kept us updated by email and the staff where very helpful and friendly.
