For those who think that bagpipes are exclusively Scottish, this is a great place to widen your experience. The different types of pipes, and resulting variety of sounds, are fascinating. The fellow or mouth blown alternative is another consideration. I have had a go at playing French pipes and I love the sound. I'd like to have more sound samples of the various pipes, and maybe a little more about the sort of music they play, but this is a minor complaint.

A very interesting tourist information centre. Very helpful staff, very knowledgeable and passionate of there town and county. Good local books, photos, pictures, nice stands of homemade jewelry, and crafts. Upstairs you find the bagpipe museum, interesting to find the history of this iconic musical instrument. Local music groups play, upstairs and have musical workshops. Interesting to hear and see the history of the nortumbrian pipes. Nice way to pass an hour.

The Chantry Museum and Visitor Centre is well stocked with information about the area and with a plethora of gifts and souvenirs of Northumberland, as well as with information about the old Chantry itself. Upstairs (wheelchair friendly lift and loo) is the Bagpipe Museum - small but well stocked with examples of Northumbrian pipes and playing great music evocative of its time.
