About
MUSEUM NOW CLOSED it is with heavy hearts that Stella & Dave Mitchell announce the forced closure of their Museum after 32 wonderful years. We would like to thank the thousands of visitors who have over those years who for the most part, shared our love of ordinary objects, and our passion for the little things in life, that mean so much. Thank You.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An absolutely amazing museum absolutely packed to the rafters with brilliant memorabilia and artefacts. Myself, my wife and another couple spent 3 hours utterly engrossed and we certainly missed things too. The amount of times we said 'we had one of those as a kid', or 'my Mom (or Gran or dad etc) had one of those!' .
Spread over a few levels in themed displays it is well worth the modest entrance fee.

Anything less than 5* would be a travesty for this unique museum packed into an old market hall in Craven Arms.
A description is hard (hence the title) suffice to say it's bold, barmy and brilliant for the range, depth and background to the various exhibits.
My wife and I visited last Friday (14 Oct) and after a two hour tour (which could just as easily have been four...or six) had a brief chat with Stella and her husband, and were sorry to hear the story of the forthcoming compulsory closure. The memories come thick and fast (particularly for boomers like us), and we left a little shell shocked that such an important collection as this will be split up and sold off...visit it while you can!
Thoroughly recommended and well worth the £8 admission.

This was our second visit, and we still have seen all of it, we were in three hours and it is well worth the small cost of admission, well over thirty plus areas of exhibits and a unique Museum, it dwells on the aspects of life of the ordinary people, not just the life and times of the rich and famous.
There is a place for such stories and most museums cater for these, here is a Place of the People, of things and life of MY Parents Grandparents and theirs.
Many of the exhibits I could relate to, like looking back into ones own memories sometimes, there are many items on display that could have been lost for their lack of value at the end of usefulness, and thankfully, kept for all to see, this is not to say that is the majority of exhibits, I would love take my Grandchild to see it one day.
The sad news is that due to issue the place has serious questions of location, the Lady there has given this place so much, it is her labour of love, it would be a real shame to loose this all, but please visit and make your own mind up about the place, we have been, returned and left with a part of it, and hope many more will be able to share in it.

I love the amount of stuff. It means you have to keep looking and can visit again and again and still notice things you couldn’t take in before. I find this so much more interesting than the usual type of local museum that shows you about three items with a simple text which holds your interest for about a minute. There’s a wealth of exhibits to grab the attention and the maze like progression through is exhausting, in a good way, and thoroughly entertaining.. this is an experience no one would forget. I have visited several times and always find new things to look at.

We were staying in the local area and I always research the 'weird' things to see and do. The museum was suggested so we decided to visit and I'm so glad we did.
We visited on a Friday afternoon and parked in the free car park 200 yards away. The museum has brown signs directing you to it so even without Google Maps it's not hard to find at all.
When I got there I was a bit like 'What on earth is this place? There's SO MUCH STUFF EVERYWHERE', it honestly was a bit overwhelming. However as we started walking round, we identified loads of things we saw / played with / used as children and it also brought back memories of things we had seen our Grandparents have in their house.
Even if you are like me and don't usually spend a long time at places, I'd recommend a good 1.5-2 hours here as there are floors and floors of just... Stuff! It sounds random but it's all been sorted and there is are different categories and by the end of it I just kept repeating "How on earth did one woman manage to do all this?"
Certainly worth a visit and I'm hoping we'll be back as you won't be able to take it all in in one visit!

Myself and my family visited the museum today with our small dog. Loved that it was dog friendly. We spent just over an hour in the museum and were very impressed with the huge amount of items on display. There really is something of interest for everyone. Well worth a visit!

You cannot imagine how much there is to look at in here. We easily lost ourselves and before we knew it 90 minutes had passed. You can tell the curators have put a lifetime of effort into collecting these items. Well worth a visit and a wander round! We were dubious thinking it can’t be very big, but it’s over 4 floors. If you like to reminisce then you will love this!

We found the museum from a visitors leaflet.
Upon arrival, the doors were locked with a sign stating telephone for entry. We did and the owner who lives very close came walking up and let us in.
Once inside we were met by a treasure trove of items of all description from the last 100 years, of every day life. The owner has themed displays over four floors and every inch of space has been used, walls, floors and ceiling.
The displays will definite bring back child hood memories, that you could share with your children and grandchildren.
There is so much to see it would take a good couple of hours and even then I think you will miss things.
The owner is lovely lady who is engaging and extremely knowledgeable about her collections including the history that goes with it. She will be happy to discuss anything about her collection. She has been collecting for 50 years and is still collecting.
This is well worth a visit, do not be put off by having to ring her to open up if the doors are locked.

We were staying in Knighton for a week to celebrate my 50th, but decided to drive to Craven Arms on the strength of the reviews for this museum. We’re so glad we did! So much love has gone into creating this, and we thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours walking the floors.
We didn’t book, but phoned the number on the door and the owner turned up within no more than a couple of minutes.
All in all, it was a wonderful couple of hours. Thank you very much!

Where collecting ends and enviable madness begins. A true delve into a mixture of valued bygones and what some might think is junk. For me all is fascinating and utterly unique. The nearest equivalent is the Opie packaging museum. This has a more intimate and personal atmosphere helped by the warmth and knowledge of the owner. Take plenty of photographs as there's bound to be dozens of objects that you'll miss.

Do you have access etc for disabled as my father in a wheelchair
Written 7 May 2019
Inside there are stairlifts, but the passage ways are narrow with oddments left on the ground by displays. I’m not sure that you could easily get a wheelchair round it all, especially as at at least one point you have to turn round 180 degrees in a narrow area.

Have you managed to reopen yet
Yours hopefully Lee
Written 9 February 2019
Sorry we are still closed.
We are hoping to reopen in a week, 2 at most.
The unplanned and underfunded work has taken much longer than anticipated we are in the hands of tradesmen and the Fire Officer.
Thanks to all who have wished us well.
