Thank you to Spring Hill for such a lovely riding holiday!! We returned for 3 days of riding this Easter, having had a fantastic time last year. As we are a larger group (the equestrian society from the University of Nottingham), the bunkhouse was a perfect accommodation option, with self catering facilities in a large open kitchen. The rooms were especially clean and tidy- we were very impressed by the renovations of the bathrooms since we visited last year. Thank you to Sue for ensuring the smooth running of the holiday and for answering all of our questions when booking the trip. The riding itself was fantastic! Liz and Dawn were amazing ride leaders and took us on some beautiful routes. We enjoyed having a lot of canters and gallops, and it was lovely to see how much the horses enjoyed it. They were very good at adapting for different abilities. Every one of us felt very safe on all the horses. Also a big thank you to Eloise and Carol who accompanied on our rides and were really friendly and helpful. To top it all off, we were extremely lucky with the weather, which made the views even more spectacular. We really highly recommend Spring Hill to anyone, whether you want a solo riding trip, for families and of course larger groups (such as university groups such as ourselves)! Thanks again for such a lovely time , we are looking forward to next year! :)

My 17 year old daughter, a complete novice rider and myself returning after a 30 year break from riding, had a fantastic time at Springhill Farm. We were kindly picked up at Gobowen station by Sue who owns the farm and driven to Springhill, where on arrival we were taken to our two bed studio accommodation. This was a clean, comfortable secure self catering space on the farm which my daughter and I found very suitable for our 3 day stay.
From the minute we arrived we were made to feel very much at home and immediately relaxed. There is no WiFi which for us was a bonus as it meant we could truly unwind . You can pick up a signal if you walk up the road about 1/4 Mile . The walk is a good way of stretching out stiff muscles after a days riding.
The combination of beautiful surroundings, patient and encouraging leaders like Dawn, who was our leader for the three days we were there. Dawn is not only fantastic at her job but great company and my daughter and I enjoyed our time out on our hacks with her very much. She was knowledgeable about the surrounding countryside, and her years of experience with all the horses meant ours were selected to fit exactly our individual abilities and confidence levels. We felt safe and confident from the minute we first mounted up. We were assessed the first day to check our capabilities and hacks there on were selected both for capability and enjoyment. All were breathtaking the scenery is just so wonderful and the terrain varies, so no two hacks are ever the same.
I should add that the riding school is family run and a real labour of love and hard work. The staff are all lovely and the high level care given to all the horses is immediately evident. The horses are so calm and accommodating to each rider. It was a pleasure to ride Teddy, Jannie and Donald.
We also had a lesson in the school to help make progress with my daughters trotting technique. Chris gave us the lesson and as a very experienced teacher had my daughter trotting quite confidently within an hour.
During our three days my daughter and I rode solely together with Dawn, so we have both benefited greatly and feel that we have made great strides in our riding capabilities.
We got home yesterday after three fantastic days of learning, fun, gorgeous horses and fresh air, huge skies, and got to know some of the fantastic stable team, we are already planning next years visit!! 🙂
I would really recommend a 3 day stay at Springhill Riding Stables !!

Can totally recommend exploring the Ceiriog Valley on horseback and Springhill Farm Riding Stables is definitely the place to go to for lovely horses, great tuition and a thoroughly enjoyable day.
As a group of 5 ladies, all with mixed riding experience ranging from beginner to intermediate, on arrival our riding ability was assessed, and we were then expertly matched with our horses.
Leading our 2 hour hack and looking after us was Dawn, who was not only great company but also kept a constant eye on the group which was very reassuring for those with less experience. Nothing was too much trouble for her including all our photographic demands to record the day!
Springhill Farm is in a great location, they have a large selection of horses and ponies who are obviously well fed and cared for and generally just happy with life.
We are hoping to return soon for a pub hack. Thoroughly recommended as an amazing way to experience this stunning landscape.

I came with my Uni equestrian club and I honestly had the best time. I was super nervous at the start as I have not been riding for that long but all the ladies were so lovely and encouraged me, helping me gain the confidence I needed. The Yard Matched had me riding my lovely boy Ben and he took such good care of me. Absolutely beautiful horse. The rides were so much fun, a brill length of time and it was so chilled. Giving us the experience of being able to have your own horse over the 3 days we were there and look after them as if they were your own (feeding, grooming, tacking up and getting them in from the field each morning) we definitely something I needed to experience. By the end of the trip I was continuously asking when the next canter/gallop was and never wanted it to end. All I can say is please go to SpringHill Farm. They really take everything into consideration and help you advance so much in so many ways. Thank you lovely ladies and horses for giving me such an amazing experience 😊

Every day at Springhill Farm has been a 10/10 day. We booked directly through Sue, who helped us build a unique and tailor made itinerary which suited us as riders.
We stayed in the bunkhouse, which had a really nice big kitchen to cook our meals in and we had a little bunk bed room to ourselves.
Every person who represented Springhill was helpful and considerate, they're all experts in their work and know the horses and how to encourage the riders to improve their riding and get the most out of their horse. Our favourite day was out with Dawn on Dougal. We were challenged and felt our confidence grow with every hour.
We also had a go at archery in the shed which was great fun and something we'll try again I'm sure. Next step archery on horseback...? (I just want to be Merida from brave).
the surroundings and access to trails was incredible, enjoying the amazing scenery on horseback was breath taking.
I am already engineering ways to return. 10/10 all the way

Beautiful countryside seen from horseback, could not fault this riding holiday at all.
We did the weeks trail ride, each day in a different area so experienced many beautiful places. The horses were lovely forward going, well matched to the riders, very surefooted & great fun. As our group were experienced riders we chose to do the faster ride & the horses did not disappoint. We stayed in the bunkhouse which is a perfect place to relax after a long day in the saddle. We were well supplied with breakfast foods, picnics & even a very nice pub lunch! All the staff & owners did everything to make sure you had the best experience & nothing is too much trouble.
Eating out most nights was easy, some lovely village pubs within short drives.
Will certainly be returning to Springhill.

I am back from my first real riding holiday, and my expectations were absolutely exceeded! The location of the farm is spectacular, to say the least. Rolling hills with colours that change with sun or clouds: you are all in with nature and your horse.
We rode most days with Dawn, an incredibly kind lady, who will take best care of you and your needs.
When I arrived I was barely able to canter for a minute, and I left not only being able to canter, but also to gallop! I sit better in my saddle and I finally learned to completely relax my legs! It has been an incredible journey! Thank you Fred for all your help too! :-)
At the farm, Steve, his wife and Lyz, are also very kind.
I am now looking at possibilities for going back in a week from now, if there is availability, and otherwise I will be back in springtime.
Oh, last but not least, my horse, Donny! We fell both in love and had a great contact. He was patient when I was learning to canter. He is a super sweet but strong horse!
Thank you for everything!
Cristina (NL).

Everything about our 5 day holiday was fantstic; we were paired with wonderful horses to suit our abilty - they were surefooted, healthy and good-natured. The scenery was amazing, something you really appreciate on horseback.
The bunk house has underfloor heating, a very well equipped kitchen and a comfortable lounge area. The home cooked meals were delicious and the hot tub in the garden was the perfect end to a day in the saddle.
The guides could not have been more friendly, helpful and professional. We were sooo well looked after by the family who run the stables and cannot thank them enough. We will return!

Greeted with a warm welcome by a helpful staff team.our 10 year old daughter had such a fun one hour hack on Saturday that she also joined a two hour hack this morning. Eliza has told us how amazing her little pony, Serenade was and how safe she felt cantering through the forest. The views offer panoramic, raw beauty in every direction. We will definitely use this riding stable again on our next visit to Shropshire.

Throughly enjoyable 2 hour ride out. Nice open country and very little on quiet country lanes. Nice steady irish cobs, riders well matched to horses, Sue who took us out quickly assessed our abilities. Two of us a tad rusty having not ridden for a number of years and older end :) our nervousness soon dissipated and we enjoyed our canters( that we thought we wouldnt)

Is a deposit required or all money for paid upfront?

I think we paid everything at the end. It was really relaxed. A wonderful experience

Are the people who attend the 6 day riding camp split into groups by age and ability or just one of the two?
Written 23 August 2019
Being split by ability is the most important factor but other factors do come into it such as a age as well.
