Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We thoroughly enjoyed several hours of walking in this deservedly popular location with wonderful views. After heading along the footpath, also signed for Roaches Hall, we peeled off to the left just before the main entrance to the hall and after a quick scramble we reached the start of the gritstone ridge. At Roach End we crossed over the stile and took the path on the right to Gradbach Wood which led us to the impressive Lud's Church, a great spot for photographs. If the weather is fine the parking bays usually fill up very quickly but don't be tempted to park on the grass verge or like us you will probably receive a fixed penalty notice.

Stunning views for a walk, relatively good climb for intermediate level. The paths are a bit muddy currently due to rain and they're under re- building programme in some places. Really busy for parking along road was the only issue as it's a popular site and some people are inconsiderate with parking badly. Check out the Roaches cafe also nearby, worth a visit! Great walking routes, easy to follow and lots of climbers on boulders also. Mountaineer rescue running first aid course here when we visited

I came here because I had been here as a kid and wanted to do this whole "let's revisit stuff after 30 years" thing, knowing full well how touristy and busy it gets here. Maybe it's a middle age thing, who knows. Anyway...
Just like nearby Lud's Church, the Roaches is much bigger than I remembered and was a good couple of hours (and yes I walked along the full length plus the small road at the back of it) as part of my longer precis of this part of the peaks.. It was good, I can honestly say that. I love the fir trees that grow at the front of the edge and the variety of rocks. Views were stunning. Yes it was full of tourists even on a weekday in Sept, so if you are looking for tranquility this is probably not the place.

Visited when staying at the Camping and Caravanning site at Blackshaw Moor near Leek. It was a superb 10 mile round trip hike from the campsite, across country via Lower Blackshaw Farm and Whitty Lane up to Hen Cloud. From there its an excellent north west trek following the Roaches ridge past Doxy Pool to the Trig point before turning back. Superb views of Tittesworth Reservoir. Plenty of places to stop for a picnic with a view. There is limited roadside parking that runs below the Roaches albeit it gets full very quickly. It is worth noting that it is not a bad walk from the reservoir Visitor Centre where there is ample parking, toilets etc.

I took my young family up here, my three year old got part way up but turned back with Grandparents but my 7 year old had great fun, first bit of scrambling she tried. I'd say it's a beginner type of climb but do respect the Roaches. Bit of parking in near by lay-by so you can park close. It can kill a few hours if you walk all the way along, equally can fill an hour or so just to get to the summit and down again.

We love the peak district and this is now one of our favourite walks.

We did the Roaches and down to Luds Church for a circular walk.

Wonderful views on the top of the Roaches.

Then open fields. Then through some woods down in to the crag where the "church" is

Not a challenging walk but lots of varied terrain so a fab walk.

Our small dog loved it too.
I don't remember there being any pubs/eateries nearby but we took a packed lunch

Visited today, parked opposite tearoom not blocking, not obstructing anywhere, no pay and display. Spent 45 minutes in the Tearoom. Returned to car and discovered parking fine notice which had been issued 5 minutes after we arrived. Non existent signage about restricted parking as per previous poster has written on 16/9/20. Beware, this is opportunistic & a cynical ploy to extract revenue from unsuspecting visitors to this beautiful area. Tainted a good day.

Well it has been many years since I last visited The Roaches with my young children, who had many fun filled hours running around and exploring this stunning area. On returning it made me realise that we should have visited more often. We were staying at a campsite nearby and so we did not have to worry about parking. Parking can be a challenge if the weather is very good, although I notice that Paddock Farm appears to have some parking in one of its fields. The walk to the top of Hen Cloud is well worth the effort for sunning views at the top. We sat for sometime just watching the world go by. There was plenty of people walking, cycling, running, bouldering and rock climbing. There is so much to do in this area, whether it is just sitting and relaxing or watching those who have energy to burn. Be aware that the footpaths can get very muddy in places so appropriate footwear is recommended. Also, be aware that some of the paths can be very uneven, so watch your step. In summary, take some food and drink and spends hours of fun at The Roaches, you will not be disappointed.

A beautiful area with stunning scenery and parking enforcers who will spoil your day ! Be very careful that you only park in a designated lay-by because even if it seems you are in a correct parking area you will be ticketed. Ruthless and unnecessary.
