About
Step back in time and experience life in a Norman motte and bailey castle. Explore Tudor and Stuart chambers, Victorian reception rooms and the magnificent late Medieval Great Hall. New for 2021 is our interactive Anglo-Saxon exhibition which tells of the history of Mercia and includes a mead hall and items from the Staffordshire Hoard. To really bring history to life, we have a brand new Augmented Reality trail around the castle. It can be downloaded from the app store for free - Tamworth AR Explorer. Tamworth Castle promises a brilliant day out for all the family. There is plenty to see and even more to do with hands on displays and costumes. The Castle Keep is set in extensive pleasure grounds in the centre of Tamworth's historic market town. Over the centuries the Castle has welcomed royal visitors, key figures in history and nobility. A must see in the Midlands
Jun 2021
We visited this attraction for an afternoon and had an amazing time. While smaller than some castles the tour is packed full of interesting exhibits that tell a story about the evolution of the midlands. A personal favourite of ours was the recreation of a Viking mead hall and the replica swords on display. They've clearly been putting the funding to good use and I hope to visit again in the future.

I'd definitely recommend this as a place to visit if you're looking for something to do in the midlands.

Not suitable for pushchairs, luckily the staff were very friendly and let us leave it near the gift shop so we could carry our little one around.

Perfectly historical and fantastically fairytale wedding day 💒
Feb 2020 • Friends
The best thing was feeling like a princess 👸 on my magical Wedding Day 💒
The staff were friendly and helpful, the historic building had such an amazing atmosphere, the location was perfect for photo opportunities and the day we shared with friends was one of the most memorable moments of our lives together.
After the last year of lockdowns and cancellations, consider getting married at Tamworth Castle, the perfect way to celebrate 🍾

Dec 2019
C'mon, a castle in Tamworth - of course its going to be awesome! Great, friendly staff and plenty to do - took my granddaughter who loved it. Spent a good couple of hours there. The roof was closed because ti was raining, but the staff let us up to have a look at the view!

A wonderful experience
Oct 2020
I attended my brothers wedding at the castle yesterday and the whole experience from the minute we walked in the castle until leaving was fantastic. We were socially distanced and the staff had laid the hall out perfectly, they were so friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. Overall, a magnificent experience. Once this craziness is all over I will visit the castle so I can have a proper look around.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. We are so glad that you enjoyed the trip and your experience with our great staff was a positive one. Please do share your photos with us and tag us on social media, it would be lovely to see your day. We apologise about the dungeon, but due to on going issues with pigeons (who have annoyingly made our lovely castle their home...), we unfortunately are unable to have this open at this time, but are trying our upmost to tackle the situation, so we can enable visitors to once again, safely explore this part of the castle. Thank you for understanding and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Short visit
Aug 2020 • Family
We took our 2 little grandchildren here. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our grandchildren enjoyed the visit but it only took us an hour to go round and so it seemed a bit expensive. Due to Covid the dressing up clothes had gone which is understandable but the price should reflect the reduced activities.

A very short visit and poor value.
Aug 2020
Went as a family of five to TAMWORTH castle it cost £26 pound. We were there less than half an hou. I have been on a family visit before and spent a couple of hours there. This time there was hardly anything open. I appreciate that they can’t have the clothes and helmets and things to try on because of Covid. It was literally into the armoury up the stairs to the dining room (where we were told a bit about it. Up more stairs into two bedrooms. Round the Victorian part and into the great Hall. There did not seem to be much information in the rooms. I know there is a lot more to the castle than this as I’ve seen it. I thought it was very disappointing and poor value for money. At least reduce the price if there is nothing to see!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your most recent visit. Unfortunately due to Government Covid-19 restrictions we have had to remove our interactive elements and also our top floor is currently closed as we are building a brand new Anglo-Saxon exhibition there. Our admission prices ARE currently reduced to reflect this. Hopefully we can reopen safely later in the year and resume 'normal' activities. We really hope that you will revisit us next year when the new exhibition is open and so that you can get the full castle experience that you were expecting. In the mean time, stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

OK but nothing special
Aug 2020 • Family
Spent an hour or so at the castle which was OK, there is a large park close to it with an excellent park for children.

Very interesting
Sep 2019 • Family
It was very interesting with lots to do for kids, you can complete it within a hour or 2 but it is surrounded by a large park to burn of some energy.

So much wasted potential.
Aug 2019 • Family
So much wasted potential need more events for all age groups as it’s a do it once and never again type of place.

Hi Zach, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear you feel this way. We are working on a brand new Battle and Tribute floor to expand the castle's activities and options, so we hope this will help to add additional options to the museum.
