    Excellent day out
We've just had a wonderful trip to Birdworld with our 3 grandchildren aged 4 and 5. There is so much to keep them entertained and the area isn't too huge that they all managed to go round on foot without any issues :) There's a fantastic playground that they loved and plenty of birds and animals to see en route. We enjoyed the regular talks and feeding sessions. The penguins and pelicans were brilliant! Undercover picnic area and plenty of loos! We'll definitely be back :)

    Not cheap, but worth it
This collection of rare birds is well worth a visit, but it is not that cheap. It covers a large area and includes a play area for children, a small farm and a café. One gets the impression that some of the birds are held in rather small enclosures with very little space to fly about. There will be some birds hiding in foliage or a small birdhouse inside the enclosure, but with a bit of patience over two hour I saw and photographed over seventy different species.

Great place to visit with kids! But plenty of adults visit without kids
This is a really lovely place to take kids. The Annual pass is well worth it, and I take my 2 & 1/2 year old granddaughter about once a month. She loves watching them feeding the penguins, the pelicans and the Farm animals. We also enjoy the talks especially the owl talk. I’ve given it 4/5 because it’s a bit worn (I believe they’re going to revamp it soon), and I’d probably give the restaurant 1/5 (I believe they’re revamping the menu), but the restaurant staff, I’d give 4/5

    A bit disappointed
As bird lovers and not visited for many years my daughter kept talking about visiting. We went today with a couple of her friends They only had the cafe open which is at the entrance/exit. There was nowhere to get a hot drink any where else The birds were lovely and some very entertaining. With it being quite cold a few seemed to be shivering with cold We seemed to have seen it all in 2 hours and that was without rushing I k ow it is mid week but I heard quite a few people complaining about not having anywhere to get any sort of refeshments

    Weekday out of holiday visit
Beautiful place to visit with a wide variety of birds to look at. The enclosures are well maintained and the animals look well cared for. We managed to walk around in a couple of hours and as it was during the week it was really quiet. The animals were all out and about and we got the chance to see everything.

Lovely place to come, got annual membership right away
I had a lovely shock coming here. I’ve lived nearby my whole life and never thought it was much and would be a waste going here but I was wrong. My 2 under 2 loved it, we got an annual membership the following week, the food is really and kept on a hot plate (lifesaver for hungry baby/toddler) and it just lovely place to walk around. Excited for the events this August

Birdworld - Not Just for Kids... ...Great day out for adults.
Went with the missus and what a lovely experience and day. It's been about fifteen years since we went last and absolutely just as good as remembered before. The animals look really well treated and happy ( ie - not stressed ). The enclosures for the larger birds are pretty big as well so they can actually fly rather than hop around. Some birds are mixed, but lots of signage shows you who you can try and see - this is because some are clearly asleep or hiding in the great enviorment they have. There was only a handful we did not see. If you choose to take kids, plenty of things for them to look at and a park as well to keep them happy. A few areas of eating is also around, but this is 100% suitable to bring your own stuff. There is also a farm where you can touch animals such as gots. Paid for two adult tickets - had way more fun than the same average cost for a cinema.

    Great day out
We had an enjoyable three hours there. Plenty to see and all the birds seem happy and well looked after. A few things have changed since our last visit a few years ago which slightly affected the experience. We used to like the flying bird display but this is no longer being run. There is no longer direct access to the nearby garden centre which we always made use of and you can no longer feed the birds. Fairly good food with friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of toilets.

    Disappointing visit.
Sadly since our last visit in 2019, the place has changed and is not as good as it once was. The play areas for children are good but many of the enclosures are now empty and those that aren't are in need of tidying up. The farm, always a favourite with young children, seems neglected and children can no longer experience handling the domestic animals. Eating places are ok but ice cream prices are extortionate as are soft drinks and bottled water. Would suggest taking your own food! This will be our last visit.

    An ok day out
A reasonable half day out. The park is clean and tidy. The farm area looks run down now and there’s not an awful lot to see. If you like birds there are loads of them! The Hey Duggee summer show was very basic, but my two year old liked it!

Visited yesterday with my sister and 18 month old great niece. Last visited around 20 years ago with my niece and very sad to say it looks as though it has had no attention in all that time. Everything is neglected and run down with weeds growing all over, wooden sections of the cages rotten and an overall impression of grubbiness and neglect. Even worse is the cramped conditions many of these beautiful birds are kept in. Very worrying is 2 reindeer kept in a small enclosure with just a mud floor. One was asleep and the other was walking round and round and round the fence without stopping and with it's head hanging down. Surely a sign of stress. This is far from a nice life for these birds and animals. Surely the 4 months of lockdown would have been a great opportunity to give this place some much needed attention. The cafe isn't open currently but having walked through it to get to the exit I can't imagine anyone wanting to eat there....grubby doesn't come close to describing it. I certainly won't visit again and cannot recommend it to anyone else......in fact if you care about animal welfare and their quality of life I suggest you avoid it or expect to be upset. I question whether anyone connected to Birdworld actually gives a hoot about the creatures in their care.

Lovely day out, we visited around 10.30 on a Saturday with limited waiting, a great place to walk around, my 4 year old loves all the different birds and penguins, there is a nice little farm with a very friendly turkey you can stroke! There are goats, guinea pigs and bunny's, there are plenty of picnic tables situated all around with little kiosks selling drinks snacks and ice creams, the resturant was closed today but we had packed a lunch to take with us. You can take your own food. There are play parks too some of which were closed because of covid and social diatancing but a couple of open ones. The aquarium wasn't open today as the inside space is too narrow which is fair enough as social distancing would be difficult. Toilets are nice and clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. Everything sign posted to do with social distancinf and hand sanitizers situated throughout i highly recomend to anyone.
All of the animals I saw today were clean and seemed very looked after.

What a fantastic place for a family visit. We were looked after by a wonderful keeper called Polly, she took the time to explain about to us and other guests, all about the birds and their way of life, the way the pairs of birds bonded by sharing food and other fascinating things about their lives. Thank you Polly you really made this a memorable visit for our family and many other guests as well with your impromptu talks as you fed the birds.
The on site cafe was very good, if a little disorganised on the day, good food and sensibly priced. The loos were clean and plentiful around the site. The site is all accessible for wheelchair and pushchairs and not too big for the little ones to walk around. There are plenty of places to picnic and a children's play area and farm animals.

Myself and my partner came here on Sunday 19th Jan, although the weather was cold and icy in places staff had taken precautions to try and make the paths safer and making sure everyone was aware of the slippery paths.

From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed by the staff.

The animals are lovely, from the cheeky parrots that wolf whistle and say hello as you walk by to the brightly colored toucan that looked so unreal. There was plenty too see including two types of penguins which you can get really close too!

There is a very small hidden part with dinosaurs as well as a small farm with reindeer and other farmyard animals. Although myself and my partner don't have children we did notice the fact that there was alot of play areas for children which is great and would recommend this to my family who do have children.
There is also lots of talks and feeding times at different times of the day.. the pelicans were very interesting!
There are lots of toilet facilities around the park.

When purchasing the tickets, you also get free entry to water world, which is on the same grounds as bird world, just have to go to the front of the building out of the main doors (will see it when in carpark) this was a lovely little touch to the end of our very pleasant morning/afternoon out. It is small, however the fish they have are beautiful and not repetitive! They even have Crocs!

I would highly recommend this place, for myself and my partner we only stayed 2/3 hours, we had walked around a few times however in the summer im sure we would stay for longer and take a picnic etc. Could easily be a day out with children.

BirdWorld re-opened on Monday 15th June, following its enforced closure during the coronavirus pandemic.
After being unable to go outdoors to visitor attractions for so long, it was wonderful to be back!
Upon arrival we were greeted by clear signage, requesting that we use every other parking bay to allow for social distancing. At the main entrance we were asked some health screening questions and then the new social distancing requirements were explained in a really clear friendly manner.
When we entered the attraction, it was so nice to see other people and so nice to be out in the open air! After so many weeks of lockdown!
The measures put in place by BirdWorld were evident but all worked so well. The staff were so friendly and the birds really seemed so happy to be seeing people by coming up to the front of the enclosure to interact with us.
The toilet facilities have been altered so only one family group use them at a time and then they seem to be cleaned and sanitised after that person or family group had left, ready for next users.
We were so lucky with fantastic weather and the entire attraction seemed to be revitalised and to have its heartbeat back again. We can only imagine how difficult it’s been for everyone working there with no visitors and of course no revenue coming in.
Well they are back! If you would like a fantastic, stress free and SAFE day out the wonderful birds and staff are there awaiting your visit! Remember you need to book in advance to enable them to ensure they only admit a limited number of people in to allow social distancing.
There are refreshment outlets open, however maybe best to take your own lunch as offerings are limited at present but plenty of places to purchase hot or cold drinks from.
A massive well done to all at BirdWorld for preparing for re-opening! You did it! And how wonderful it was to be back and just what is needed during these challenging times.

Birdworld itself was great and I really enjoyed seeing all of the birds. But I was very disapointed with the penguin experience that I bought for my birthday and was the last thing I did at Birdworld. I went on the day of my birthday and the penguin feeding was a big let down. I spent £65 to throw some fish in the water, I didn’t get to hand feed them, I didn’t get to stroke them, I didn’t get a picture with them. All I got to do was pick out some dead fish from a bucket and throw them over a ledge into the water. I really wish it would have explained that you don’t get any personal contact or pictures with the Penguins because it really ruined my birthday and my day. I think it would be a good idea to put more details of what’s included as I really wouldn’t have wasted my money. If I had known I would have asked to cancel it and be refunded and not thrown some fish into the water as that was all I got to do. I might as well have been any other person viewing the Penguins as the only extra was throwing fish over a ledge. The lady was fantastic and she was very knowledgeable about Penguins and she was great and I cannot fault her. But the experience was awful and I don’t think I’ll be returning. I would also not recommend this experience to others.

The wonderful collection of birds are truly fantastic, beautifully set out, lovely cages, extremely clean, creative gardens well designed round trip and held the interest of 3 and 5 year old boys for 3 hours with a short break for lunch.

Room for improvement:
They have let themselves down badly by having a manky-looking food kiosk in a very tired-looking building with a repulsive choice of what might be food, so we went to the Forest Lodge garden centre next door, but the catering there was mediocre at best.
I understand that both venues are owned by the same people.
We noticed that many people had brought their own picnic: they were obviously in the know!

A family visit (children, parents & grandad and there was something for everyone. This was the first time meeting up since lockdown and we thought it would be nice to have a day out together somewhere in the fresh air. We chose a sunny day and pre booked tickets. (I wouldn't advise going on a rainy day as there is little shelter due to Covid-19 restrictions and certain areas being closed).

We had a great time. Took our own packed lunch, but had drinks and ice cream from the kiosks. Staff were great - all of the ones we interacted with were really friendly. So nice to see.

Well organised and clean like other reviewers have said. THere was plenty of hand sanitiser everywhere and the loos were particularly well managed by staff.

The only slight problem was that some of the other visitors didn't seem to understand the concept of social distancing and came really close to other family groups. Not sure anything can be done about that really! We just had to move on....

I (19F) went to Birdworld with my dad (58M) yesterday and we had a great time! I'm very picky about zoos in terms of what I consider to be good enclosures and I rarely go to zoos anymore because of this. I was really impressed with Birdworld's enclosures and I was extremely impressed with the variety of birds there. Many endangered species and birds such as the Ground Hornbill, Kea, and African Penguin, which are rarely seen in captivity in the UK. The walk-through experiences such as the Outback with all the budgies and zebra finches, penguin beach, and more, were amazing! The birds had so much space, things to play with and do. All the enclosures had plenty of natural trees and bushes, no artificial nonsense! Many of the animals seemed so happy and really friendly. All the staff were very nice and helpful. Plenty of benches to sit and watch the animals, meaning you can easily spend hours here. My dad really loved Birdworld too, he especially liked all the noisy birds like the Kookaburras and the cockatoos! I will definitely be going again, I'd 100% recommend Birdworld and if you live nearby or will be in the area now and again, getting an annual pass would be well worth the money! :)

Great day out, so many different birds that I had never seen before. We went to all of the different talks throughout the day, I'd highly recommend as they are so informative, the staff are clearly so passionate. Katrice was brilliant and carried on all the talks even when it was just us there (we went on a quiet Tuesday). Lots of different food and coffee stops, although we brought a packed lunch. We took our 7 month old who loved every minute and she enjoyed going in with the goats and chickens.
Highly recommend and would definitely go again, I think for the price you get so much out of it!
