Usually greeted with friendly staff, with the addition of a coffee shop. If you're looking for somewhere to take in some culture without needing to pay to get in South Shields Museum & Art Gallery is a compact venue that offers a range of arts, culture and heritage exhibitions and displays. Well worth checking for touring exhibitions and free activities.

I ordered coffee and cake. The food was OK but the service was very disappointing. The member of staff did not want to be bothered and was quite rude not listening to a question I asked.

I live in the town but hadn't visited the museum for several years. I noticed an advert outside for a JMW Turner exhibition so went along to view. I was a little disappointed as there was in fact only one painting - maybe I was being a little naive in thinking such valuable paintings would be housed in a small... More

We parked at the supermarket across the road (and shopped there afterwards...). Easy to get there... wheel chair access and lifts inside in case you need it. I particularly enjoyed learning about the Jarrow Crusade on the first floor. We are so lucky to live now... Historic street scenes and explaining about local people and professions from all classes were... More

We popped in here whislt out shopping in King Street with the kids as I've never been in before. We spent about an hour looking around and ran out of money for the carpark so didn't see the exhibition upstairs. Was a nice change to our usual Saturday afternoon activities with the kids.
