Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I absolutely love the new shop. The old one was great but this is just brilliant. Jason is always on top form and leaves you to browse or will happily recommend authors personalised to your specification. There are so many books, reasonably priced, across all genres, to choose from. It is a highlight of our annual pilgrimage to Bognor. It is well worth a visit and in a very handy location too - right by the train station. I cannot wait for the coffee machine to be installed and I hope there will be tea too! Oh and the postcards are marvellous too!

Thank you so much for such a lovely review, we really do appreciate it. We are still working on the coffee machine, but be assured there will also be tea. We look forward to welcoming you back, and hopefully by then we will be able to offer you a 'brew to browse' with.

Discovering this fantastic bookshop was one of the highlights of my week away in Bognor Regis with the clan. Such spaces are a dying breed. The selection of new, preloved and antiquarian books is vast, the unmistakable smell of Lignin brings the sense of nostalgia. My wife, son, daughter and myself all returned home with books of interest catering to our differing tastes, Equine, Feline, Aviation and History. The proprietor was engaging, informative and polite. The kids were also given the opportunity to push their luggage through into Platform 9 & 3/4 with it being The Magic of Books Day! If you like your books I thoroughly recommend paying Heygates Bookshop a visit next time you are in Bognor Regis.

Heygates is a fabulous book shop that goes on for ever as you walk back through the shop. Very friendly and helpful service. This is the kind of place you can get lost in for hours and find hidden gems. If you love books this is a must visit place.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write as a review and such kind words. We always jest that the shop goes back as far a Narnia, which is a slight lie, but it makes people chuckle! We are glad that you enjoyed your visit to our shop, and hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Heygates bookshop in Bognor Regis is an absolute treasure trove of delights and temptations, and quite literally the bookshop of my dreams. There are shelves and shelves of books on every topic, new and old, ridiculous and sublime. The shop feels like a proper old bookshop, and yet it's light, bright and modern too, with some excellent decorations and displays lovingly created by the owner, Jason, who brings the whole place to life with his enthusiasm and character. It's so good to see a shop like this in Bognor Regis. Having grown up here I admit I thought of Bognor as tired and sleepy, but Heygates is breathing new life and colour into the town. Here's to more of that! If you happen to find yourself in Bognor Regis, do pay it a visit!

This bookshop is an absolute gem. Now located conveniently next to the towns railway station you can easily lose an hour...or more, browsing the stacks. All of your favourite genres and authors, classics and oddities, puzzles and bits and bobs, comic-books and graphic novels, there is something for everyone. Chairs are dotted about for the weary bookworm and Jason, the owner, is always at hand for any inquiries. Whether you want a quick thriller to read on the train, an exact copy of a childhood favourite or Fly Fishing by JR Hartley, you will always find something in Heygates.

Heygates is absolutely stunning in its new location, spacious and of course beautifully organised. There is something about this shop that just gives you all the best vibes, a massive selection of books, an owner who knows his stuff and the genuine love for books is just up-lifting.

Popped in with my 10 year old twin boys, they love the kids section and always leave with something exciting to read and will try new authors based on recommendations which is fantastic.

Also thank you for convincing my son 10 is a tad young for Lord of the Rings- we shall save that one for a few years time. The kids horror book saved the day (and my sanity!)

We are so happy that you enjoyed your visit, and took time out to write us review - we really do apricate each and every one we receive. We are always happy to advise on books for children, and it is not always content that is unsuitable for a child, more they might just spend most of there time asking you to explain some of the words (meanings, context etc.) Tolkien is an amazing read, and will will leave an impression that lasts a life time, but at the age of 10, maybe Tolkien's book: Tales From The Perilous Realm might be a good starting point, to get him used to the style to writing. We very much hope to welcome you back one day soon.

I popped in to the Heygate the other week and bought the 1st two books in the Railway Detective series. When I was in town yesterday I couldn't resist popping in again whilst my parents made their way to the nearby Wetherspoons. I ended up buying another two books.

The Heygates is an Aladdins cave, going back a long way and full with a brilliant selection of wonderful books. The owner is so friendly, helpful and chatty as well. Even though I live over in the Worthing area I'll definitely make the effort to visit The Heygate to buy books; I need to complete my 'The Railway Detective' series and hopefully be able to buy the rest of Gregory Maguire's Oz books from you.

What a find! This shop is in my hometown and…embarrassingly I had never been till last week. I saw it had won an award from muddy stilettos and brought my very bookish friend along. Well. Needless to say I lost her for a good half an hour in the atmospheric isles of books, new, preloved and even audiobooks. Not just an intimidating collection of cannon books, nay nay, a huge selection of books, including kids books, puzzles and an easy reading section. Plus a lovely collection of non fiction books, and a quaint courtyard to boot.

I’d recommend a chat with the informed, interested and enthusiastic owner, and definitely a hot chocolate too. They even take secondhand books off your hands, which gets you money off purchases in store. Plus if you get carried away, sturdy bags for life are available behind the counter. They’ve thought of everything.

I also attended the event this weekend where they had a children's author in to read a book, and sign them, with colouring and stickers available, plus they decked the place out for a Harry Potter themed day. It was great, they even had the platform 9 and 3/4 trolley in the wall which is just fabulous given its railway station location.

Over all - a welcoming, atmospheric, generous place, not stuck up, smells great and lovely friendly staff. Thoroughly deserving of an excellent review. I’ll be frequenting this place for sure.

First visit to the new premises next to Bognor train station (although I visited the old shop many times) and it is brilliant. The move to a bigger shop was worth it, and it still has its secondhand bookshop charm - quote from The Husband.
Love the decor and all the shelves to have a rummage through. LOVE the royalty history section! And love love love Jason - the owner. He never fails to make me smile and laugh with his stories and creative imagination.
It is definitely worth a visit if you like all things literature, quirky and fun. We came away with bags of books and big grins.

Heygates bookshop is everything a brilliant bookshop should be and more. There is an enormous selection of books, both preloved and new, in a fantastic location. The owner is incredibly friendly and his love and enthusiasm for all things book-related is contagious. My children came out of the shop with a huge stack of books and now want to stop by every time we are in town. This is a real gem of a shop that is well worth a visit.
