As we were staying nearby in Sutton we decided to visit the Roman Villa in Bignor, it was less than a five minute drive. The reception we received was very friendly, the entrance price of £6 did not seem excessive at first but it is small and it only takes about 30 minutes to see everything. It is well maintained... We were looking for a tea room, and found Bignor rather by accident. I'm sure we could have visited the tea room without paying the £6 entrance fee, but we were there, somewhat interested in Roman history, so decided to go ahead. The tea room is rather scruffy, but we had the best fruitcake ever, and I'd return just so... More

It doesn't take a long time to go around the Villa, but it is super interesting and really just amazing that these mosaics are still in tact after all this time. Gives you insight into the kind of lives these people were living and is a fascinating place. Worth a visit!

Visited here many times since I was a child. Now in my 40's, I returned with my 8 year old son who has Autism and enjoys Roman history. A beautiful location. Peaceful and the remains of the villa and mosaics are well preserved in keeping with the surroundings. I like the fact that there are no artificial lights on site... More

Set in the rolling hills just north of the South Downs Bignor is a roman gem. The mosaics etc are in excellent condition and the lay out is easy to follow. The information at the villa is suitable both for children and adults with lots of activities for youngsters to try. A small and simple café with helpful staff makes... More

Now I can remember going here when I was at school and in some ways things have not changed and that's the beauty if here! The attraction is suitable for your youngsters and your oldies alike. The special days with the re-enactors are brilliant - our 6yr old couldn't stop talking about it. The cafe is justness you want with... More

Take foot steps back in time. One by one on meticulous mosaics, mesmorising in their minute accuracy of memories gone by in a past world. Colours muted, moulded, manipulated into man and beast see todays light as if created yesterday. Empathise easily with our past and compare and contrast with our own views on interiors. For all to favour ,families... More

Tucked away on a gentle grassy rise of the sweeping, majestic South Downs is a hidden treasure of Roman Britain, well worth the detour from major routes to discover. Some 1800 years ago, when the future Emperor Constantine led his legions from Britain to conquer Rome, this was an extensive & wealthy villa and farm complex with beautiful mosaic floors,... More
