- Andy C56 contributionsGreat for a walk, plenty of parking plus toiletsGreat beach for a stroll along, then along the national trust reserve area. Good sand to play with although strong currents so not the best beach for a paddle or swim for younger kids. Toilets available half way up the car park and cafe also onsite Car parking a bit pricey for out of season however ticket will cover you for a full day if purchased.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 November 2023
- Suzanne M26 contributionsSuper sandy!I really wanted to walk along a sandy beach on my November birthday, so hard to find sand in Sussex! East Wittering Beach is pebbly. This was wonderful, even had sand dunes. Yes the beach is sort of grey as opposed to golden but still perfect. We got the 52 bus from Chichester. Bit of a trek from the bus stop. OK it's probably not that far but certainly more than ten minutes! Loads of dog walkers and sadly some (vagabonds!) did not pick up their dog mess but generally pretty clean. The toilets were clean and the cafe was open and lovely and friendly. We had a happy relaxing beach walk to the rather strange East Wittering, it takes about an hour and is a lovely walk, if you are worried about the tide, all seemed very safe though, you can walk along the side of the beach on the grass nosing at the beach houses. A perfect day out. I imagine it would get crazily busy in summer but is delightful, if slightly bleak, out of season. Apart from the beach, toilets and cafe, the shop didn't seem to be open, there isn't any thing else there but well worth a visit. Perfect for a bit of sea air and to blow away the cobwebs. Heavenly! So happy that I went there.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 November 2023
- Laura NLondon, United Kingdom47 contributionsLovely beach, rubbish outdoor cafeLovely winter beach day at wittering. Probably prefer it in the jam packed Costa del wittering in the summer. Time and time again though food areas let it down. They ran out of hot food except chips. The staff were either understaffed or really really slow. The que is slow even in winter. My daughter had her icecream before her chips as there’s not enough hours in the day to que twice. If they sorted out the outdoor eating area it would make it a special day outVisited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 January 2024
- Steve B3 contributionsLost for words at some of the reviews!Honestly don’t understand people complaining about the parking costs. Find another sandy beach in the area with beautiful clear water. I tend to go to the beach because I like the beach. If I’m spending a day there then the parking costs are irrelevant, try parking in Brighton! You can prepay online which recognises your number plate so you are guaranteed entry during busy times/sold out. If you pre pay you also get a discounted rate! It’s a beach, there is sand!!! Cars will get caught up in it if the people driving them don’t use their brains! Jesus wept, I tell you what, don’t come back and leave it for the normal folk. Cheers!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 March 2024
- me m107 contributionsAmazing even in April!Well the car park prices are ridiculous £11.25 Flat fee Amazing beach white sand and sun what more do you need. It was so warm on the beach and the wind was behind the beach huts and not on the beach. Lots of dogs walkers and families. Drinks and food available and toilets Can’t wait to returnVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2024
- michelleNewbury, United Kingdom9 contributionsLovely dayReally lovely day at the beach with my family. The children loved it. The car parking was a ridiculous price though. £15 for all day. I can see that a lot of people literally speaks all day here and once they’ve had enough of the beach they have a bbq in the car parkVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 July 2024
- S B10 contributionsCar park is horrendousThe beach is beautiful, clean and you can walk all around, it’s lovely. Toilets are ok, not the cleanest really. Refreshments are not the best organised. The horrendous thing is parking, you pay £15 and after very heavy traffic to reach the parking when you arrive, you literally can’t leave the place at the end of the day. There should be more staff helping in the car park and give directions. When you leave the car park, staff are at the main junction not in the car park itself unfortunately. It was so so bad.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 July 2024
- Rachel KAscot, United Kingdom762 contributionsLovely white sandI thought it was all quite organised and lots of people to help with hundreds of cars parking. The problem is there isn’t signal on the beach so you can’t pay via the QR code. Quite a lot of litter on the beach and it was heavinggggg, British heatwave week. Queues looked very big for food etc. we didn’t eat thoughVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 July 2024
- Sarah MSouthampton, United Kingdom3 contributionsWest wittering beautiful beach and great for families with young childrenStunning beach and excellent for young children. The shallow water and the water pools are great for children. When the tide comes in the water pools with sand banks are still there so ideal place for families. The car park price is amazing make sure you book in advance and it’s £11.25 for the whole day. Car park is big and no steep hills or steps to climb after a long day. All in all amazing beach amazing dayVisited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 August 2024
- Sparkling Alien BTheale, United Kingdom27 contributions💲💲❌️West Wittering❌️❌️💲💲Tbf given we didn't arrive till just after 6pm we were charged the daily flrate of £8 which hardly seems correct, the disabled toilet door is still a wee but dodgy still and no idea how the ladies light gets to turn on but it wasn't working when it came to use. It is a wonderful beach but it definitely hasn't had much TLC in recent years with the extortionate carpark costs I would expect mire, we were all a wee but shocked. Cafe again wasn't open but even when we get down early it's not open. Think in future we will park and beach down road and walk into beach from sand cause that cost for a few hours in nutsVisited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 11 September 2024

We had another fantastic day on stunning West Wittering beach, however, the food we bought at The Beach Cafe was very disappointing. After a long wait in the cafe queue £26.70 bought us 3 sandwiches, 2 sausage rolls 2 coffees & some crisps. The sandwiches & sausage rolls were made with the poorest quality ingredients and were quite disgusting.
The staff were all working really hard & appeared to be doing a good job during this very busy time.
Sadly we will not be visiting the cafe again, there’s no excuse for serving this awful food, how disappointing & a missed opportunity to serve food to be proud of.

West Wittering is a beautiful stretch of beach. We came for a walk.
The dunes are a lovely place to visit.
Too many dogs - not controlled on short leads as requested - but this is something you get everywhere unfortunately. No one seems to want to enforce it. Dogs running wild and going to the toilet all over the place.
Take your own food. We got caught out. Purchased two very bland but expensive chicken and tuna sandwiches. With crisps, an average sausage roll and two drinks we ended up paying over £20.
Another food stand served fish and chips but the queue was over thirty people deep.
I would recommend they sort it out and organise a proper food offering if the beach is going to welcome thousands of visitors during the summer.
Parking is expensive. £9 flat fee. Fine for all day visits but not for a couple of hours.

Arrived at 1pm after having paid £9 online for a prebooked parking space. We only went as we’d read on the website that parking in the beach car park had been reduced to 2,500 cars (half capacity) to allow for social distancing, you weren’t meant to be able to enter the car park unless you’d prebooked. There must easily have been 5,000-6,000 cars in the car park and as you entered there were signs indicating you could actually pay at the gate. Got on the beach and it was RAMMED, no social distancing, people sitting next to each other like sardines in a tin. Admittedly this was partly because it was high tide and all that was left was the pebble part of the beach, but it was also because the information on the website was misleading and as many cars as possible were being let in. Sat down on one of the small areas of pebbles that were still available and discovered there were swarms of hundreds of flies on the seaweed that went crazy every few seconds and buzzed around everyone. Everyone else on the beach seemed quite content to be packed like sardines in the middle of a pandemic with hundreds of flies buzzing around them but we were off within 10 minutes. I would’ve given zero stars if I’d had the option to do so. Shocking, money-making rip-off by whoever owns the car park and the beach rammed with irresponsible people who seem to think there’s no pandemic anymore

I have been to this beach on a few occasions, the parking has to every booked beforehand and there is no entry unless it’s booked prior (I had to book a week in advance). There isn’t really anywhere else to park locally, so it’s imperative this is sorted before visiting.
Make sure you bring all your bits and pieces (food wise) beforehand as there is very limited refreshments etc.
There is one toilet which I’m aware of but is usually not very clean.
That being said, the actual beach is wonderful. The water is lovely and the sand dunes are great to walk along.

After booking an £8 car slot for Thursday Aug 20th we drove 1hr 20mins from Hove only to arrive to a totally packed beach. Thousands of cars and even more people. It was like arriving at a music festival. There was virtually no room on the beach at all, with thousands of families all crammed in all along the beach. They claim that they are only 50% capacity due to the pandemic (which is why we booked) but this can not be true. After walking around the headland at East Head, we noticed loads of people had pitched up in the roped off (protected) sand dunes, with no body to tell them otherwise. I understand that they probably need to make some money but this was a very bad experience for a day out.

Agree with previous reviews - a spontaneous day at the beach has vanished due to the booking system. I see the point on school holidays and summer weekends - but mid-week out of school holiday season? WTF? Plus why make it so stupidly expensive? Due to the cost you feel compelled to stay there just so you can get some value for money. I think places like this need to take a hard look at how greedy they really need to be. Not all of us can afford such stupid prices just to park a car for a rare day out in almost 2 years.

On an October afternoon we were looking for something to do the kill an hour or two on a Sunday afternoon. So we drove the 20 mins or so from where we were staying. We arrived at about 2:30, but were still expected to pay the £4 day rate even though it was October and would be dark in a few hours, so we obviously weren't going to be there long.
In it's defence it is undoubtedly the best beach in both West and East Sussex, but even so feel it a bit extortionate to charge a full day price for the parking for a couple of hours in October.

Great Beach with plenty of space to spread out , the Blue flag area can be busy but easy enough to walk further along with less crowds. During covid the car park is pre bookable, would recommend you do this as they will not allow you in if fully booked. Some facilities have been reduced but there is still a café . Very clean

We loved our trip here even though it rained half the day! What a lovely beach it is and also nice that it is just a beach (+ cafe, shop, takeaway) and no distractions of fairground rides etc. We will be back. You need to pre-book parking via the Justpark app if you go, you can't just turn up.

Everytime we have visited this beach we have to wait 2 hours or more due to the amount of cars waiting to get in.
So having decided since lockdown to change to pre book system this has made the experience coming here so must stress free. There are signs all along the way to say either the beach is full or to pre pay before you visit.Despite this there were a few idiots that turned up only to be turned away again.
This beach is the best in the UK and is a dogs paradise as there is a designated part of the beach where dogs are allowed.
The beach opens from 08:30 till 8:30pm but you need to state on the booking what start time and end time as there are patrols which keep an eye out.
A great day out with plenty of facilities and snack bars around.

Does the parking ever get full ? And turn people away or stop selling parking on website ?
Written 20 June 2023
Are there annual permit for local residents
Written 1 June 2023
I would ask that question of West Wittering’s Management Group.
Written 3 June 2023
Is there easy access from the car park to the beach at west wittering or are there steps? How far away is it?
Written 8 August 2022
No steps. If you go early you should be able to park very close to the beach. Just miles of flat sand
Written 12 August 2022
Are portable (not disposable) BBQs allowed in grasses carpark areas?
Written 1 August 2022
Complete ban on BBQs but there was a brick static BBQ in the car park with lots of used & left disposables on it. Maybe contact West Wittering Beach for any information.

Has anyone stayed in the “west sands beach pad”
Please?

The website says the beach closes at 8.30. If you say later will you be locked into the parking/ kicked out?
Written 30 August 2020
Yes you would be kicked out as they have patrols and security guards coming and asking you to leave just before 8:30 .
