I joined a few friends on a visit to the caves. I was a very late addition to a party of 4 and called be added to their tour the day before, during the busiest time of year.
Although I wasn't able to join them...More
We did two caves and both were stunnung! Both our guides Sam and Rebecca were very experienced and could tell us alot about the history aswell as the geology/chemics, with good humour. This is on of the best things we did during our stay in...More
We did the chiefly cave tour that went for one hour with our four children aged 10, 8, 7 and 4. They loved it. When we drove up we were so impressed with how the entrance looked. You drive through a real giant cave. The...More
Admittedly, the caves are a long drive from Katoomba but they are certainly worth it. We did the Lucas cave with Scotty as our guide and it was amazing to see, plus he kept it very light hearted and fun all of the way through....More
The whole family with kids aged 17-8 really enjoyed this cave and also the surrounding area with the blue lake and enormous lizards and (allegedly) platypus. The scent of eucalyptus vegetation was amazing.
We saw the Imperial Diamond cave. It is a very high and...More

Jenolan Caves is a wonderful place with so much to see and do. I would recommend staying a night or two at historic Caves House. We did a cave tour, went bushwalking, saw platypus in the wild. A great place to unwind.
This was my third visit to Jenolan caves and it always leaves me speechless. Its an amazing to realise that we humans are such a tiny spec in this vast history of our earth. The caves are beautiful and our tour guide was very well...More
A long windy road in leads to a natural wonder. From the first moment driving through the cave entry my jaw was on the floor. A moderately strenuous but well maintained and safe walk though one of the many different caves with a guide is...More
We visited the temple and it was ok. Lots of steps so a level of fitness required. Some in our tour struggled. The guide was good. Took about 1.30 hr .
Crystals interesting. Diamond cave is better. Pricey though.

The New South Wales Train website has a lot of information for trip planning. I recommend getting an Opal card. They are sold at most convenience/petrol stores and can be topped up there as well. They make getting around Australia via public transportation very easy. Check out transportnsw.
As the other reviewer commented, I also recommend going straight to the Jenolan Caves website for prices and cave choices.
Blue Mountains Trolley Tours runs a bus from Katoomba to the caves. They are the only company that provides this service, so if you do not have a car, you should check out their website.
Note that booking the actual cave tour along with the transport is an option through Trolley Tours. I recommend this as they will work out the cave tour times to be compatible with the tour bus departure times.
Hope you enjoy your time, it is a beautiful area.

Hi Ella Dael
Tough question, depends what you want to get out of the caves. Unlike other cave formations, Jenolan is a number of different caves and because of the various conditions the formations in them are quite different. My choice would be as follows.
1, River Cave. Climb down the stairs to deep underground and see the river and steep stairs back out. Along the way their is spectacular crystal, veils and stal/stags.
2. imperial Diamond .Some beautiful crystal formations and not so strenuous.
3 Lucas Cave. Big Chambers least claustrophobic (if that is an issue) Some very large stal/stags.
4. Orient. Big Caverns/chambers with lots of decorations some crystal
5. Chifley Cave. Not as spectacular as the others but features a lot of history from early settlement of the area.
You really want to try and spend a day there and do two tours. One in the morning one in the afternoon.
I suggest you go to the cave website. The descriptions are fairly accurate. Unfortunately you cant post website address's in Trip Advisor
