The walk to view Wineglass Bay was challenging. Uphill steps most of the way. Little time to look at the scenery because of the rough track and steps. Stopped several times to take in the scenery but when the top was reached, it was disappointing. If someone had not seen the Tasmanian coastline before, this view might be wonderful but the 40 min climb was not worth the effort. There were other longer walks available but we had limited time. Coming down the steps, several people (gasping for breath) asked if they were near the top and "is it worth it?" Coming down was more treacherous because every step had to be watched.

The alternative - look at the wonderful photos other Tripadvisors have uploaded because that is what you will see and the photos may be even better.

Silly me, absolutely loved my trip to Tasmania but wasn’t prepared for Tasmania Parks charging so much to access nature. Having to pay for a parks pass soured the experienced somewhat. Happy to pay, but $60 for a family day pass? I feel sorry for people trying to travel on a budget, as those sort of fees hurt.

Here are your options for seeing Wineglass Bay:

1. Lookout. A 45 minute hike from the car park up a reasonably steep hill to the lookout, Views from here are very good, and there are lot of viewing platforms so you can get the perfect shot even with crowds around. But note, there’s no water or toilets after you leave the car park. About 90 minutes round trip, but, if possible, choose good weather. If the sun’s not shining there’s no white sand or blue/green sea and it’s not half as impressive. But, if it’s too hot, this is a tough hike as there’s not a lot of shade.

2. Mt Amos. All those classic pictures of Wineglass Bay come from here. The lookout is good, but the true view only comes from Mt Amos and it’s a very tough walk, sometimes involving a rock scramble, and will be beyond most people.

3. Lookout and walk to the beach. From the lookout it’s a half hour walk down a 1,000 stairs. It’s tough. But doable, and at the bottom there are now compost toilets. The rocks here are lovely, and you can swim at the beach. But you then have to get back. You can walk back up the staircase or, complete the circuit across the isthmus to Hazards, which is an even better, and safer beach, absolutely stunning, and then complete the walk back to the carpark. But this is about 2 hours of pretty boring, hot, exposed tea tree and rock.

4. Water Taxi or tour. These go to Hazards, then there’s a short mostly flat walk across the isthmus to Wineglass Bay, which anyone can do. From there either take the water taxi back, or walk up the staircase to the lookout. (You could do this in reverse, but would have to make sure you timed your arrival at Hazards with the water taxi)

The walk to the lookout is quite strenuous on well made paths and stone steps from the surrounding granite landscape. All steps and and retaining walls were of stonemason quality. The lookout has had a huge extension since we were last there and is very impressive and the view is stunning, probably the best we have seen in our extensive travels. We then took the 1000 steps down to the beach at Wineglass Bay to fine pristine fine white sand and crystal clear waters, reminiscent of Whitehaven Beach in Queensland. 1000 steps down means 1000 stops back up, and steep, so don't go down unless you are prepared for the return journey.
We went at Easter and wisely arrived in the carpark by 8.00 am and found out on our return the parked cars strtched for 2 kilometres.

Such an amazing place and the 3 hour round trip needs to be considered carefully. Don't go if you are not reasonably fit

Being of more advanced age, my wife and I avoided the walk to Wineglass Bay and Lookout, choosing instead to take the cruise into the bay. While this way you do not get the panoramic views, the experience is still worth the effort.
It truly is a beautiful bay, which can still be enjoyed from a boat deck. Lots of people walking the beach and swimming while we were there, making it very family friendly.

We took on the walk over to wineglass bay with a couple of other families, Plenty of stairs up to the lookout and also down to the beach at wineglass bay. Beautiful! Tranquil turquoise water, whitish sand - enjoy it before heading back. There are toilets over at the beach as well! If you cant face the stairs back over the ridge you can always walk around the loop - but it is quite a long way!

For experienced walkers with decent shoes this is probably an hour's walk each way to and from the car park. The beach was wild and empty, but there were big breakers with a strong rip - don't be fooled by the write ups suggesting crystal waters. Though perhaps we just got unlucky - it was a warm sunny day in early March

We started our hike late in the day as the weather was not good in the morning but by late afternoon the sun had appeared so we headed for the lookout. Myself and my friend are not experienced hikers so we were unsure if we could do this hike. As it turned out its quite easy, just take your time, stop and enjoy the views whilst climbing up. Its well worth it when you reach the top. Tassie parks have done a great job in upgrading the walk, the path is easy and theres a lovely seating area at the top to stop and take it all in. It says its a 1-1.5 hour return trip. we took 2 hours but we did stop alot whilst climbing and also spent a bit of time at the top.

Make sure you go early as the car park is a nightmare. All the cars were parked in the campervan spots no one monitoring! A bit of a climb up to lookout which took us 30 mins but well worth it Magnificent view😱 we then walked down to wine glass bay beach, well worth the effort but about 500 steps took us 25 mins. There is also a toilet at the beach. We opted out of returning the same way back due to the amount of steps which was hard going and took the long route to Hazard Beach and back to car park which is 8km. It was a long way through bush and up some rocks with sandy paths but well worth it as the beach was stunning, there were also a lot of coves along the way so pretty. This took us 2 1/2 hours. Exhausted tonight but it was so worth it, if you have the energy go for it😊

Well maintained and accessible (but steep) path down but be prepared for the hard challenge getting back out. Either 45 - 60 minutes steeop uphill or 2-3 hours via a more undulating circuit. Gorgeous scenery but you need a reasonable level of fitness, good footwear, water, a hat and sun protection for sure.
