Never knew much about President Garfield. This place was amazing! I've toured many of the presidential homes and museums all across the USA, and I will say this is the most informative and well-operated parks in the US National Historic Parks - especially in the...More

This years encampment was over the top great. They have events for all ages, and opportunities to learn living history in a way you may have never experienced. This event is yearly usually the third weekend in July. I highly recommend it for adults or...More

We visited this Presidential site about two years ago. We were in the area and decided to stop again. It was another great visit. Our tour was lead by Park Ranger Intern Matt Jones who has only been on premises about a month. If our...More

We reserved the monthly "Behind the Scenes" tour led by a park ranger, which encompassed the entire grounds and outbuildings, as well as the attic and basement of the house. Afterwards we took the brief, volunteer led tour of the house. The house contains mostly...More

We have driven by this location a couple of time but never had time to stop. Since the renovation of the home, all we can say is THANK YOU to our National Parks for restoring this site. Garfield was probably one of the most qualified...More

If for no other reason, the grounds here make a visit worth the time. Like others we had very little knowledge of President Garfield. President? Yes, I did know that but everything else I did not. The visitor center was well done. The grounds are...More

I'll admit it- I knew very little about Garfield before this trip. In my defense, he was only President for a few months but, unbeknownst to me, he was also a Civil War General and Congressional leader as well as a college President and preacher....More

We really enjoyed the house, but were disappointed they weren't doing tours due to a civil war weekend which we didn't know about. However, the house was opened to go through some of the rooms. There is also a small museum behind the house which...More

We visited here used our parks pass and saved $7.00 a person. But i would have paid that to tour this house. Our park guide Allan( forgot his last name) was great and knew so much about the house, the family and history. Well preserved...More

About a half hour depending on traffic. You will also be in Mentor, Ohio. The Garfield residence is very close to the Mentor Mall and tons of shopping and restaurants.

I would plan on at least two hours. The house tour is docent led, thus time controlled, but then time to linger on the grounds and in the museum are also needed. Don't miss the film.
