I love learning about this part of our history and believe my children should be exposed to it as well. There was not a ton to engage them at this particular museum (age 6 and 7), but as an adult I was interested.

Dewey gave us a great intro to John Parker who was a very important free black man who was instrumental in aiding and transporting runaways on the UGRR. He home/foundry was very interesting and well worth the price of admission!

Don't miss Dewey's presentation on the John P. Parker House in Ripley. Dewey is "best docent ever." I'll go back just to ask more questions and to learn more about John Parker and the abolitionist activity in Ripley.

If you are in the area it is worth checking out. Pretty impressive history and the guy working when I visited was super informative. Be sure to stop by the Rankin House while in town.

We went on a class trip to the Parker house, and the Rankin house (which is right up the hill). The history behind John Parker is unbelievable. It is definitely worth the trip to Ripley Ohio. I would definitely go back for another time.

The interior of this home has been bastardized to the point of being unrecognizable as a home. It feels more like a museum that's short of funds

The importance of Mr. Parker along with the other residents of this village is historically significant. The home also pays homage to Mr Parker's intelligence, perseverance and ingenuity.
