About
A venue of enhanced creativity, Goumas Estate - Art & Wine is located at Trilagkada, near the mountainous settlement of Maries, northwestern Zakynthos. Two different but connected worlds of creation cohabit its spaces; an icon painting workshop and a boutique winery. Both live on the hard work, passion and life of Giatras-Goumas family, confined in a traditional, refurbished home made of stone.

While out exploring the island on our honeymoon we saw this place advertised on a sign post so we decided to visit. On arrival it seemed pleasant, the wine was nice and the service was okay, however there were a few cats around which were no bother what so ever yet the lady serving us told us told us not to give them any attention and we witnessed her kick one of them. We then decided to leave and noticed a dog tethered to a wall with little to no water which was swamped with wasps due to the extreme heat (36 degrees) she had no more than 2 meters space to move around which meant she was forced to deficate near her bed which was a small wooden hut with no soft bedding. She was clearly unkept and hot and thirsty, we gave her fresh water which she drank straight away. I decided to confront the owner who was ignorant to what she was putting her poor dog through. She told me that the dog needed to be tied up as she would disturb guests. This winery is open 900hrs until 2100hrs which means this poor dog is tied up for 12 hours a day in extreme heat. There was no reason at all as to why the dog couldn’t be kept inside in the cool temperatures with fresh water and food, she had excuse after excuse. Me and my Wife sat with the dog for a while, put down one of our beach towels for her to lay on ( which the owner was annoyed about ) and she seemed completely fed up and isolated. We reported this to the Katastari police in person along with a bunch of emails as well as the municipality however after months of trying it seems they really do not care about animals. Please do not feed into this winery and if you see Rosa the dog chained up please feed her and give her some water. I’m hoping my discussion with the owner made her realise but I highly doubt it. There were other visitors there while we were and there’s no doubt they must of seen this dog too, if you visit this place and have no empathy for this poor dog then shame on you.

If you have hired a car, make the time to visit the Goumas Winery. It took us about 15 minutes to drive from Alykes but the location is beautiful and being able to see the vines and then taste the wine was a fantastic experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. It opened our eyes to how good Greek wine really is.

Great place to visit. we just turned up and had a wine tasting experience with knowledgeable staff. We sampled five different wines, taste of their Olive Oil and had a side of cheese and figs. All for 10€.

Beautiful winery. We did a wine tasting which was great and very informative of the wines produced by this winery. Highly recommend a visit and purchase of some of their lovely wines.

We emailed the estate and booked onto a wine tasting not really sure what to expect. We arrived at the picturesque estate and were met by such friendly people. We had a short tour and then sat overlooking the vineyard and the beautiful countryside and had 6 wines accompanied by home made snacks. The whole experience was excellent and we purchased a couple of wines and some olive oil and fig syrup afterwards. Can't recommend this highly enough - excellent value for money and great to experience local authentic Zakynthos.

A very authentic winery. We did a tasting, in which we tried 6 different wines (white, rose and red). We received a lot of information about each wine. After the tasting we walked around the beautiful wineyard. We even purchased two lovely wines. I would recommend this truly authentic winery!

This was a truly wonderful experience! Mr Yiannis and his wife shared with us their knowledge and love of wine and treated us to majestic tastes! It was like visiting the home of a loving friend, true greek filoxenia-hospitality. The view is amazing, immersed in nature and nurturing for the mind. If you have a limited time on the island this should definitely be one of the things to do!

What a place. We visit every time we go to zante and the wine gets better and better . If you get chance to go wine tasting then please don’t pass it up. Lovely owner and very hard working she deserves a visit . The wine itself is not the cheapest but as they say you get what you pay for and every drop in those bottles are worth every euro . The wine travels very well so treat yourself to 3 or 4 bottles to take home with you . You won’t be disappointed 🍷👍.

Lovely family run winery. The owners have redone the place (earthquake destroyed majority if the island) but some of the buildings are from 1900s. We went off-season but the owner welcomed us for a private quick tour and wine tasting (only 10€ per person/super short notice as we called them only 2 hours prior to our visit). One of the owners, Yannis, is an artist and you can see some of his works around the property. The wines were great, and they serve them with their own olive oil and homemade bread with cheese and fig syrup (all home made). Would definitely recommend!

Worth of a visit during our stay in Zante. Only accessible via a car hire or organised trip, but we’ll worth it.
See the winery, process and get to sample their very own produce. In addition they have olive oil testing as part of their farming and finally you can learn about the owners artistry and painting interests. Specifically his demand to paint scenes and biblical figures in Greek churches. Interesting! Personally, I found it very interesting, but wine quality not in same league as others across Europe, none the less quite drinkable. If you have 30 mins on your travels in Zante, then go for it.
