I work at this facility as a docent, and volunteer my time on their board. The home is very well kept and is the heart of the growth of the City of Lawton. Built in early 1900 and carefully restored to the renovated home of 1930. Nicely furnished. A very interesting booklet is provided which will guide you through the... More

Mattie Beal is an example of a young woman who was not afraid to go after her dreams. I am thankful that the home has been restored and is open for all to enjoy it. Mattie Beal donated some of her land to create a park, location for a church and reduced the prices of the lots for homesteaders. The... More

What an interesting history this home has of Mattie Beal's that was built when Oklahoma became a state in 1907. She was a 21-year-old single woman who came from Kansas to enter the land lottery, was the 2nd name drawn out of 160,000 registrants, and was given 160 acres of prime land in Lawton. Of course she then had hundreds... More

The home is beautiful. Fully restored and furnished - just so interesting and a sight to behold. Mattie's story is very interesting and something I believe most people would be interested in learning. We were not here for a special event, just sightseeing, but what a beautiful location this would be for an event!

This museum dates back to pre statehood, was left abandoned for years, then refurbished. Curator is very knowledgeable and informative, it's off the beaten path but well worth a stop and visit. Learn about the lady that built Lawton OK

This is a well worthwhile house to visit. Make sure you get a guided tour, as you will learn more about it and enjoy your visit even more. The guide was very knowledgeable and explained all about the house and its inhabitants.

It was nice to hear the history about the home. The home is beautiful! The staircase is amazing. You get to take a self tour of the house, they give you a brochure breaking down each room. We were definitely glad we stopped here.

My friend is a docent (new word to me this trip) at the Mattie Beal home. She gave me the grand tour. It is awesome. It is so very well restored and lovingly preserved. I took the time to read the long newspaper article about the history of Mattie's land draw & it was fascinating. It is placed in a... More
