Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'm a Texan but I have to say I'm very impressed with the rise of Oklahoma City (OKC). They have come a long way in a very short time, from Small Town America, with little to offer, except tornados and oil derricks, to an up and coming City that is getting a lot of attention on how to do things the right way. Coming back from devastating tornado damage in the City and around the Region, is a very big deal and OKC and the towns around it, shines when it comes to rebuilding and moving forward.
OKC's Boathouse District is a great example of the forward thinking of this now great small city. The Boathouse District is a unique destination for Athletes and families. It is relatively brand new, but still impressive, built on the Oklahoma River.
The River itself is billed as "one of the newest Rivers in the country," and the Boathouse District is "fast becoming one of the world’s best urban venues for rowing and canoe/kayak." Several of the buildings in the District house training facilities for, what I'm told, are Olympic athletes to exercise, lift weights and train for rowing competitions. We were able to tour a few of them and view a lot of the rowing boats. The building designs in the area are reminiscent of sails on the River, or something.
Located adjacent to the OKC downtown area, the Boathouse District is within walking distance of OKC's Bricktown, which is another great place for entertainment and dining.
For rowing and kayak Athletes, the Boathouse District offers a 2000m sprint course and two 4000m courses, on the River, all sheltered by raised banks. For families, there is a ropes course, zip lines going back and forth across the River, and a play area for smaller children.
The area also offers family boating, with kayak and stand up paddle board to explore the River, a 13 mile bike trail, climbing walls, a 72 ft slide and more.
The cost of using the ropes course and other offerings is not too bad, but may be expensive for some families, especially families with more than one or two children. But even if you cannot afford to take a zip line, bring your bikes and ride around the River. It appears clean (except for the debris from recent flooding) and seems safe. The District is still adding on with more attractions, so this area will be a great place to visit for years to come.
As mentioned, OKC is a great place to visit overall. the City offers so much for such a small town: Bricktown for dining and entertainment, the Boathouse District, Remington Park (horse racing), the Native American Cultural Center (other Native American centers are also located around the State within a few hours, or less, driving distance), the Cowboy Hall of Fame, OKC Thunder (NBA) and a lot more, including a portion of Route 66.
Take it from a Texan who's been there...

We spent three hours here and I got to do everything once. I would have stayed longer but half of our family has a fear of heights and was not as into it as I was. We went out on kayaks, I tried the BMX bike track, we did the zip line, went down the three slides, did the ropes course, and climbed the rock wall. I had a great time. My only complaint was that it was pretty expensive. The all access pass was $50. The only other complaint was that it was a bummer having to get geared up differently each time. I stood in line for quite a while at the top to do the rumble drop before someone noticed that I did not have on the right gear and would have to go all the way down, get regeared, and come all the way back up. Next time, I would not pay to do the zip line. It took us 40 minutes to get geared up and get to the zip line and I don't think that was worth my time and money. This was when it was not busy on a spring morning, middle of the week, I cannot imagine what it would be like if it were busy. So, in summary, if you can save yourself the zip line, you can save $20 and get the ropes course only pass which still allows you to be on the kayaks.

We have been to the boathouse twice now. Our son loves to kayak and so we took him today for his birthday. There is one thing that continues to be a problem. There doesn't seem to be much organization. There are no signs around to really tell you where to go. There really needs to be signs in the parking lots telling a person where to go, where to buy tickets, etc. When we got to the dock, there was no one there. Then, after finally finding someone to help, there weren't enough two person kayaks. One of the problems with all of this is that when you pay, you are paying for an hour of rental time. When you don't know where to go and can't find help, you end up wasting a lot of your rental time. This could be such a great experience!! It's really a neat place. It just needs more employees and organization. It should be set up as if visitors from out of town are visiting and have no idea what to do or where to go.

As an experienced rafter (Class 4-5), I was disappointed in the staff leadership. First round was fun. Then, our Riverguide, RJ, decided to surf the boat on the rapids. He was trying to showcase his navigational skills. It backfired when I was trapped underneath the boat. His sidekick was lazy about my safety. I was underwater for several minutes gasping for breath. It was traumatic, and nobody deserves this negligence nor these bruises. Avoid.

There is not enough room to tell of all the issues this place has so I will give you a small sample. Our family of 4 spent $110 to spend the day on what was advertised as a wonderful place. 1st we tried to pick up some bikes for a trail ride, there were 3 adult bikes (none were out, they were all broken). of the 3, two had flats. There was no pump to air them up, we had to take them to a gas station ourselves. 1 didnt even have a stem! I counted 19 bikes in the back to be repaired. There was no allen wrench to adjust the seat on the childs bike (we had to get one ourselves). When we got to the area with all of the activities we were shocked to see so many were not available. The zip line, rumble drop, rock wall, a few other attractions were closed due to poor planning (no staff). The staff that were there were very good at ignoring you while talking to each other. They have to put you in a harness for the ropes course (which was also closed for a few hours in the middle of the day) and it was difficult to get them to help you in or out of it. Attitudes all around. Definitely not worth your time or money.

My husband and I went here about a month ago. You get strapped into the harness and walk up several flights of stairs. You zip across the river, then zip back. I went first and it was fun. My husband went next and as he landed on the platform, a huge wire rod slammed back and hit him in the mouth. His lips and gums were bleeding and he was in a lot of pain. The worker just said, oh wow, sorry. The next one is set up different so that won't happen on the way back. We zipped back and that was unpleasant as well because you have to grab a rope (not that they let you know until you're on it) and two skinny tiny girls pull you in. However, both my husband and I had rope burns from grabbing it. After we were off, an instructor got our harnesses off and asked us how it was. We told her what happened and she only said, which one ? the first or second. When we told her the first one, she just shrugged. My husband was in so much pain he just wanted to leave, even though we'd paid 100 bucks for the whole day. Thats what we did. I would say, Definitely avoid!

Several years ago, some young people were in this very section of this river, during the Summer Olympics... they came down with severe bacterial infections. Nearby Bricktown, has a 100 year old sanitary sewer system that overflows, when it backs up...Guess where, yes, very correctly, right in this river... keep it in mind also, the Oklahoma City Stockyards, drains into this river, but a few miles right upstream, as well as several auto salvages, industrial sites, parking lots, etc, etc... I would not get in this river for any reason, without being at least 20 miles on downstream.

Terrible is not a strong enough word. We got our tickets at 1pm for the 3pm ride on the zip line. We did not make it to the zip line until 6pm because of the wait. The staff was really just a bunch of kids that didn't understand that if you have a 3pm time slot they shouldn't let the 5pm people go before the 3pm people. I ask and was told that it was okay. There was very little shade and 2 of the staff members fell ill from the heat. If we hadn't had water ourselves we would have been in serious trouble. It is just not worth it! Also, I tried to voice my opinion on their website, but it doesn't work correctly. No way to tell them without making a phone call. Which probably would not be answered anyway.

We've never been to the boathouse before so we decided to rent bikes here. As soon as we walked into the building we asked the emplpyee if they had any adult bikes and he said "no, well we do but they're all broken!" Are you kidding me!?
This is supposed to be a great facility, yet all the adult bikes are broken? How is this possible? Not going to come here ever again!

Our City can't attract people naturally, so they come up with these so called attractions. Of course, the "Oklahoma River" known elsewhere and on all maps as the North Canadian River, passes right by the Oklahoma City Stockyards. So when it rains, where do you think all the runoff from the cow dung goes?? Yeah, right in the beautiful Oklahoma River. What ever you do, don't swim or wade in any part of it. Fish, no sir, not me... don't care for sewer fish. Boating, rowing, in this fake impounded river, while the rest of the state starves for a drink of water is not for us.
