You wouldn’t expect Bend to have such a high quality museum that constantly adds to its experience. It’s not a Smithsonian but it’s pretty close in content and presentation.

The staff at High Desert Museum is extremely accommodating, so if you need anything, do ask. The effort to bring quality educational and historical exhibits to the public is obvious. I enjoyed the indoor displays as much as those outdoors. I appreciated a nod to Indian modernity in the Native American section, and the fun tribute to Burning Man. I was able to enjoy a large display of High Desert Art on the walls, which is not always there. I was surprised at how many animals are there! I was also surprised that there are people in period costumes at the living history section, who can tell you about blacksmithing and milling and homemaking in earlier times.…

We had not been to this museum for about 20 years and it really has changed. It was wonderful then and even better now. It works for all ages as there are things geared specifically for kids. Definitely worth your time and the price of admission.

We enjoyed seeing the museum highlight of living in the area in the past, and the small assortment of live animals and birds that the museum has. The Great Horned owl, as well as the hawks, were great to see up close. The eagle was in it's box and resting, se we did not see it. Take you time and walk the property. We enjoyed the museum.…
