So I'm a little biased on this place since I was a lookout on top of Lava Butte back in the 70s. This is an amazing place to visit on a day trip from Bend. You can hike up the Butte and see all the...More

I remember the first time I saw this from 97, I thought someone just dumped a load of road aggregate, but this is nature at its wildest. I visited Lava Lands twice. Once to walk the lava flow and once to hike lava butte. Both...More

The lava looks almost as new as it was 7,000 years ago when it spewed out into the Oregon forests. The trail is paved and easy to walk. Lot's of children, but it can get very hot in the sun and among the heat-absorbing black...More

We wanted to see the visitor center but when we got there a sign said that it was closed on Tues and Wed. We were there on Tues. However, you can still walk the paths among the lava beds, which was extraordinary. What amazing views...More

Fantastic visitor centre surrounded by jagged lava flows. Learn alot here about the surrounding volcanic area. Afterwards take one of the easy access trails through the lava flow and be astonished by this alien landscape which could easily be the surface of another world!

The rangers really know their stuff and are always ready to answer a question. The gift shop has some nice items that are reasonably priced. The displays are well done and the scenery from the top of the Butte was excellent. Pick a sunny day...More

There really beautiful views from the top of Lava Butte and you drive up there. Moon like scenery in the one direction, forests and mountain in other directions. Beautiful.

The lava tube is an easy walk with the flashlight but uneven services so you just have to be careful and keep the light well lit. Good batteries. I think it was a mile down and a mile back. But you don't have to go all the... More

The new bus that takes you up to the top of the butte costs, I think, about $3 per person. It's a new function of the park because there is so little parking up there and the road is narrow. You can stay up there as long... More
