Beautiful views from the top of Lava Butte

There really beautiful views from the top of Lava Butte and you drive up there. Moon like scenery in the one direction, forests and mountain in other directions. Beautiful.

We were in the area the first week of October. The website said that the park was open on the weekends, but nobody was at the visitor center. We did the two hikes. Trail of the Molten Land (0.75 miles). The hike is mostly paved, but you get to walk through the lava with information boards. The second trail is... More

Once you arrived, you felt like you were on the Moon. They said the First Moon Astronauts trained here for their mission. I think it the perfect place for that. The visitor center had good information and the short hike to the top of the volcano was worth it. Amazing views

I've always been fascinated by earthquakes and volcanos and this was a perfect stop for me. While in Bend visiting family (who had never been here) we stopped and looked in the visitor center (great information) and then took the trolley to the top of the volcano and was able to see the lava for great distances. What an amazing... More

This is a good place to go to for the day. A mile hike to explore the history of the volcano and then drive to the top for spectacular views.

We decided to check this place out since it's a national monument and we love our national parks and lands. This was only 15 minutes from our hotel in Bend. We showed up at the booth with our national parks pass and the sweet lady told us we were lucky and that today was the last day of the season,... More

awesome views from the top of the butte. Center was well-designed and informational. Make sure that you go to the lava cave before it closes for the season, we just missed it.

We hiked a beautiful trail through the land of the lava. Definitely a unique place to visit. In October, it's often cold, windy or snowy in the higher elevations. We had layers, hats and gloves, so we were comfortable while hiking. The Visitor Center is only open on the weekends in October, which is the case for most of the... More
