Took a friend from Victoria BC sight seeing on her first trip to Central Oregon. We rode the bus up to the top of Lava Butte, well worth the $2 fee and is a very efficient method of transporting visitors to a spectacular view of...More

This visitor site is surreal! Lots of info provided about the geological history of the area. Rangers were helpful and friendly; offering information on other activities in the area. There is a shuttle that runs to the lava butte fire tower every 20 minutes, you...More

We bicycled in a bike path from the town of Sunriver. Very scenic and educational as we didn't know how huge the volcanic caldera is in central Oregon. I would go back again.

Arrived after visitors center closed, but we enjoyed a wonderful, educational walk on the trail system passing over the lava field and leading up the volcanic cone..Well maintained & signed trails offer wonderful sightseeing for the hardy hiker as well as handicapped.

Had a couple hours to kill and this was close to Sunriver Lodge. So glad I made the effort to come here. The steep drive to the top was a little nerve-racking but the view was worth it.

The lava tube is an easy walk with the flashlight but uneven services so you just have to be careful and keep the light well lit. Good batteries. I think it was a mile down and a mile back. But you don't have to go all the... More

The new bus that takes you up to the top of the butte costs, I think, about $3 per person. It's a new function of the park because there is so little parking up there and the road is narrow. You can stay up there as long... More
