- Joseph RobbaCharlotte, North Carolina2,280 contributionsA must do on an Oregon Coastal TripWe had so many "favorite" things we did during our time in Oregon, but genuinely Hug Point may have been the favorite. It was a total unplanned stop, we just overheard someone say it was really cool and decided to check it out. Man, I am glad we did. If you have young kids, you absolutely have to come out to Hug Point. There are so many little waterfalls, tide pools, caves, swirly sand formations and more to explore. You could spend days here exploring all there is to see and not see it all. One of my absolute favorite stops along the Oregon Coast.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 January 2024
- Have Camera, Will TravelSouth Bend, Indiana3,712 contributionsMore intimate experience than Cannon BeachI'm more of a quiet person who enjoys nature and my personal space. Hug Point was definitely a nice change from Cannon Beach by Haystack Rock. There were cool rock features along the shore, a little waterfall, and even a few "caves" to check out. It was very pretty and a much more peaceful time after being at Haystack Rock earlier. This is definitely worth the stop.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 June 2024
- Diane CBoston, Massachusetts22 contributionsLoved the easy walk to the beachThis was a must-do stop on our way back from Cannon Beach. We were able to see Haystack Rock from the beach, from the other side of the Rock. (We went to Ecola State Park first). The beach is beautiful and is home to huge rock formations with shallow caves and even a small waterfall. The beach is huge and allowed us to walk for awhile and enjoy the ocean. Plenty of parking, restrooms and a short walk to the beach were appreciated.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 July 2024

Obviously not the "beaches fault" lol but there are much better beaches. A lot of washed up gunk, garbage left behind and lots of bugs on the sand. There were 3, what I assume, locals walking around picking up trash. Oh and the hug point cove is all tagged up so that was lovely..... people are very disrespectful. It's sad.

I had visited Hug Point years ago, but with high tide. I came back on a lower tide to see all the wonderful things this park has to offer. You head to the right after getting down to the beach. You'll find sea caves, a waterfall, and the old wagon road hugging the rocks. Don't expect much from the waterfall unless you go in the spring. One of the sea caves go back quite a ways if one is daring. There is a lot of nooks and crannies to explore. Lots of room to beach walk with a low tide. Ample parking as long as it doesn't get too busy. Hug Point is a must stop in the Cannon Beach area.

Very few people at this beach in the mornings when we went. Neat little sea caves to explore when the tide is out. There were a few areas that looked like the cliffs were eroding. The waterfalls were unique to see, so close to the ocean. Highly recommend this hidden gem! No parking fees. Go early to avoid the crowds!

Great little beach area very near Cannon Beach’s Haystack Rock area, very much worth a stop! There’s a lovely waterfall on the beach. It was a small trickle when I visited but apparently gets quite large when there’s enough water!
The parking was free when we visited, not sure if you normally have to pay. It’s a paved lot on a fairly steep hill and is pretty busy. But we didn’t have to wait long for a spot. There’s also a bathroom in the parking area.
After parking, it’s a small hike down to the beach. The beach is clean with soft sand and lots of caves! There were broken sand dollars scattered all over the sand! We even saw a brilliant purple jellyfish! Would be a great spot for a beach day or picnic!

This was by far the most amazing stop we had on the coast. We went at sunset and we definitely were not disappointed. The waterfall is beautiful, we saw jellyfish, we flew a kite. Absolutely stunning. Our only regret was not going back before we left.

Nice location that you should visit at low tide. If you get to the beach you have to go around a rock on the right side then you come to another beach where the Hug Point is, you can vulture continue to the next beach with beautiful rock formations.
Despite the fact that there was little waterfall I thought it was worth it.

My family and I visited this on our last full day in Cannon Beach, and I am so glad we made the time! It is less populous than around Haystack Rock, and offers caves and rock piles and formations to explore. There is a small waterfalls to, around a bend! Might have to wait for parking. Bathrooms were available about halfway up the parking lot.

Wonderful trail to Hug Point to see the stagecoach ruts carved into the rock. Loved the walk past a little waterfall and sea caves. Highly recommend for both the beauty and the history!

Enjoyed our time at Hug Point State Park. Clean bathrooms. Nice parking area. Short walk to the beach. We were able to get my 82 yo MIL to the beach for a wedding. Great area for pictures with the bare rocks and beach.

Decided to check out the location, and fortunate enough to catch it at low tide which was a bonus all around to explore more of the beach. The area was absolutely beautiful, calming, and plenty to see. The walk did stretch a bit out but completely worth it for site seeing. Also learned that Arcadia and Hug Point are attached to the same walk as well as hay stack rock if you are willing to make the walk on low tide.

We are planning a visit in July 2023 and looking at our planning, we'll get to Hug Point about 3 hours before high tide. Will we be able to explore (see waterfall, cave, walk on wagon trail) then, or, will the water be too high to access these things.

Hi, I’m hoping to visit Hug Point in October and am wondering if anyone knows how low the tide needs to be to see everything? For the day we’re planning to go, it looks like the lowest tide is 3.6 ft during the day and I’m wondering if that’s low enough to access the caves. Thanks for your help!
Written 21 September 2019
As long as you go during low tide you should be able to see everything
Written 23 September 2019
I would say it depends on the limited mobility. The road down to the beach is paved and a little steep. There are a few wooden steps to go down. Once you are down at the beach you can walk to the rocks and peak in a few of the tide pools.
Written 27 April 2018
Is there a site to check to determine when the tides are low? TIA

Hey, are you allowed to start up a fire in the beach and cook/grill on it?
Written 23 August 2016
I'm not sure the official answer but we did see some people that started a fire inside one of the caves.
