Tripadvisorā€™s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Wanted to see the Bonneville Dam hydro exhibit but it was closed for maintenance. This was a poor substitute.

This was a really really interesting place to visit. Excellent educational information, beautiful grounds, great for a picnic or large group to visit.

The sturgeon pool is great. Those are amazingly big fish and the have a terrific viewing location so you can see them underwater.

We really enjoyed this visit!

Beautiful setting and grounds are immaculately kept. The ponds are full of salmon in different stages of development and really neat, especially the feeding time frenzy. The white sturgeon pond is very impressive as you can go underground and see "Herman" face to face. Towards the back you can see the salmon enter from Tanner Creek into the holding tanks. Volunteers are very helpful answering questions and very knowledgeable. There is a short video to show the whole process no matter what time of year you visit. Nice gift shop out front and pet station with doggie bags provided. Great experience!

Spent a couple hours walking around, feeding the rainbow trout and luckily found the salmon. The mocha from the gift shop was yummy - even had homemade whip cream!

One of our walks started from this location. The property is well maintained, clean and fun - you can pay 25 cents to buy fish food to feed the fish in the holding ponds. (Dispensers do run out if there are crowds, as the fish are limited in how much they can be fed.) The signage and directions are also good. The best part was the Gift Shop, which sells local goods as well as great coffee.

My friend took me here after hiking around Multnomah Falls. It was drizzly and cold and my left foot was water-logged from a hiking incident (I don't want to talk about it). I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised. The grounds were very large with lots of tanks and displays. There were restrooms, and a gift shop onsite. My favorite place was the room with the large windows for viewing the bottom of the pond with the huge sturgeon in it. There was one that was up to 10-feet long that would swim past the window every once in a while. It gave you a very close view of its body and gills and such. Really cool. It was cold that day and kind of wet, otherwise I could see hanging out there longer and enjoying the area.

We stopped by after visiting the Bonneville Dam. Total fun find! The grounds were beautiful, i just expected to see a few fish ponds - not a lovely park! We spent an hour visiting the various fish ponds. The gift shop was pretty cute too, bought some nice jewelry and T-shirts as gifts. We would go back, and bring a picnic lunch!

The fish hatchery at Bonneville dam is free and fun. The grounds are beautifully maintained and there are restrooms and a gift shop!

While the salmon are interesting, the big attraction (pun intended) are the sturgeon. Make sure to take the stairs to the underwater viewing room for a closer look.

This (and a trip to the actual dam) would be a good activity for people with young kids.

We visited after a huge snowstorm and the grounds were gorgeous. The hatchery wasn't super active given the weather but we saw two golden eagles and of course Herman the Sturgeon. We enjoyed walking around and learning about the fish!
