Great time digging sunstones with my son whose 8. Stay nearby in hotel in Lakewood or drive to the hot springs on top of hart mountain to camp and soak. Our fourth time digging and we always come away with jewelry quality gems

Fun and Happy folks giving regular folks the experiance of the life of the gemstone miner. The belt runs are amazingly fun and productive.Got to love and appreciate the staff and managment!

There are no sunstone mines near Salem. They are all in one centralized location in Eastern Oregon (outside Plush, which is near Lakeview) it's about a 6 hour drive from Salem.

No. I traveled in a Hyundai Elantra. Did fine. It might be required if heavy rain.

I have sprint and was able to get spotty service on some of the higher bluffs in the area.
