Give yourself enough time to enjoy all of the exhibits -- both special and permanent collection as well as the outdoor sculpture pieces. Since this is a sumptuous visual feast you might want to try a nearby restaurant or sandwich from grocery near rear of museum to fortify yourself as the museum cafe is limited in size. But do leave... More

This is a good museum sometimes art museums have just too much to see without overload .i think there is just enough here. The marble pieces are a real piece of quality work .

Nice size museum that can be viewed in 1-2 hours. Few impressionists and some Picasso's on entry level. Remaining floors are mostly modern. Nice Japanese exhibit. Enjoyed floor with engravings. Gift shop had unique and fun items.

This museum is always enjoyable -- good permanent collection nicely displayed and small enough that even those who want to spend a limited amount of time can see much of the permanent collection. The termporary exhibition of landscapes from the Paul Allen collection, which runs through January 10, 2016, leads me to rate it excellent rather than good. This contains... More

Enjoyed this museum on a windy, rainy day. Saw exquisite Paul Allen collection of landscapes ranging from premier Impressionist canvases to a brilliantly colored and wonderful Grand Canyon by contemporary painter David Hockney. Enjoyed the Salon type installation of the permanent collection. It was fun searching out the temporary installation of the "Cosmic Cavern" by Kenny Scarf, wonderful contemporary wing... More

This is a great place to visit at any time. However during the appearance of the Paul Allen Family Landscapes exhibit it is even better. Take in the short video presentation that go behind the scenes in setting up and displaying these 39 works of art. It is a fascinating exhibit.

Both the permanant collection and the shrter term exhibits were very well done and I spent quite a bit more time than I'd planned. They have really gone out of their way to choose exhibits and pieces that complement each other and highlight different aspects of the point of each exhibit.

PDX is quirky, endearing and so is this museum--punctuated by little plates of exhibits that meander between an old wing and a new wing, Northwest Art, European, Native American, Contemporary, Photography, Prints, traveling exhibits and more. I always appreciate seeing work specifically about place and landscape- ie views of Mt. Hood. One gets a feel for the more local artists... More

Sally and I went on Saturday, 17 October to see the special exhibit on "Seeing Nature", which consists of about 39 landscapes of various eras from the 1500s to the 1900s. All the pieces are from Microsoft co founder Paul Allen's personal collection. I am a nut on the Impressionists. The five Monets just blew me away. There is also... More
