Awesome place to hang out for a while. Good food near by and cool shopping. Check out and see if there are events going on in the square. Even if there isn't, there are often still people hanging out, making for good people watching.

Traveling into Portland we go off the tram here. Nice open space and lots of period buildings to photograph Went into Starbucks for coffee and looked at the metal animals/sea creatures on the water troughs in the adjacent street. Nice square to visit when in Portland.

The Center of Downtown Portland, some call it the Living Room. As long as there is not a riot against Trump in progress, is is a great place to meet and regroup.

Pioneer Courthouse Square offers great shopping, hotels and restaurants. Nice place to hang out to watch the street musicians and to pick up the Portland vibe. Heart of downtown.

Okay, let me preface this by saying that I am NOT one of those naive and fearful travelers who is afraid of homeless people. I'm from Louisiana which has its own homeless population issues, thanks to our mild winters and proximity to Florida. Indeed, I actually have a heart for the plight of the homeless and have participated in many... More

If you're looking for city and local area info, the Visitors Center is located in the square. Easy access to mass transit and refreshments. Fabulous people watching and activities! When we walked through there was a gentleman flying an itty bitty miniscule kite. Funny!

For a break in the afternoon, get a Starbucks and sit in the window and watch the people go by. We missed the Farmer's Market, but there is one in the square on specific days.

Located at the crossroads of all sorts of public transportation including the MAX Trains, streetcars, and numerous bus lines, there is always something going on here. The weekend we visited there was a very popular booth serving up Trump Baloney sandwiches one day, and the focal point of a 10K race the next. Very easy access from anywhere in the... More
