Considered the most authentic Japanese Garden outside of Japan, the Portland Japanese Garden is a haven of tranquil beauty in all four seasons. In Spring of 2017, the Garden opened its new Cultural Village, complete with new garden spaces, classrooms, exhibition and gallery space, and the Umami Cafe.

Outstanding and much recommended. Larger and more extensive than anticipated, it features several different types of Japanese gardens. Tours are available. Gorgeous, lush setting. New construction of visitor center underway but off to the side and does not impact a visit.

These are extraordinary Japanese gardens. This close to the City of Portland it is amazing that there are some very peaceful areas within these gardens. The Koi ponds are also beautiful.

The garden is spread out but not too big for small children. There is a small section that is stairs only and doesn't accommodate strollers. We had a folding stroller so we just picked up and kept going. There was some construction during our visit...More

I find such peace and enjoyment taking my time in the middle of the day to explore the gardens. I am particularly intrigued by the use of stones and rocks in the pathways and stairs. Of course being surrounded by so many shades of green...More

We dropped in with some friends from out of town while visiting the rose garden. The Japanese garden is pretty nice, but not that great to be worth the price of admission in my opinion. I think it is a bit steep for the size...More

The Japanese Garden is a delightful oasis of beautiful views and restful spots. Take time to enjoy your visit. Due to construction there was a long walk up to the garden - or an occasional shuttle for those in need.

One of the nicest garden areas you will find anywhere. Always some cultural activity, event, showcase going on.

Really beautiful Japanese gardens and waterfalls. Serene and lovely place to spend part of the day. There is construction at the entrance but don't be deterred by that. Might be difficult to access for infirm or handicapped folks.

Every part in this garden was special. The subtle layers of foliage, the mossy rocks, the stone sculptures, and the raked gardens. Though the gardens were open until 7 I think light is an important element and I was glad we were there before dusk....More
