Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stop in Cargo every time I visit Portland: It’s magical! The new location isn’t quite as great as it was back in The Pearl, but it’s a funky, funky shop that provides 1-2 hours of fun shopping for Chinese imports, antiques, clothes, and novelties. Schedule it in!

In our eyes, this is a mix of treasure, casual, party, and antiquities from Asia. What really surprised us was the collection of Kokeshi dolls from Japan. If you are not familiar, please Google. For us, it is surprising to see so many in one store. The staff is refreshingly amazing! 👏

Cargo has so many fun and unique things. It's difficult to see everything the first time in. Inventory changes constantly. There are several other retailers within the same walls selling, plants, jewelry clothing etc. Don't forget to explore downstairs too.
Also stop for a snack at Giraffe's for some tasting sake' or Japanese food and drink.

Been to Cargo many times--don't recall it called Cargo, but no matter, great building and well maintained store. Years ago it was more of a "dig" with lots of good stuff needing love and attention. Now a days really clean and neat, stuff pretty much in good condition, pretty good prices and an enjoyable place to shop. Almost always find something I can't live without!!

Wander through aisles of dreamlike fantasy of things you never knew you needed but now you must have. The joy starts even as you walk the steps up to enter!

I understand that not everyone will feel the way I do about this fantastic place. If you aren't interested in foreign textiles, indigenous Asian clothing, unique local and Oriental jewelry, international-bent gifts, reclining buddha statues, ethnographic African necklaces, etc., then this is not the place for you. I first discovered this amazing store years ago when I was wandering around the Pearl District. I was drawn into the store by the colorful and interesting decorations flanking the door. Once inside, I was transported to another world and overwhelmed. I literally spent three hours in the store looking at everything. I tried on kimonos, jewelry and purses. I marveled and touched all of the woodwork from exotic lands and contemplated whether I should purchase another suitcase or just ship all of my new goodies home to Florida. So, when I found myself in Portland again, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Cargo had moved to a LARGER space with two huge floors to accommodate all of the amazing items. I had told my mother about the store and she felt the same way. We have similar interests and she was immediately overwhelmed when she stepped up into the store. It is like a massive sensory overload. There is so much to see, touch and covet that your eyes just don't know which way to go. Once again, I was lost in the exotic world that CARGO offers their patrons. The hours disappeared as we wandered through the two floors. Luckily, the store had seating for my elderly mother who could not keep up with my frantic shopping pace. Gorgeous, intricate pieces of ethnic art in the textiles, jewelry, furniture, etc are displayed in the store. We bought several yards of authentic hand-blocked Cotton Indian fabric which is very difficult to find. In addition, the store has a curated collection of interesting travel books, greeting cards and an entire section of small international goodies aimed toward children. The sales staff is very accommodating and left us alone to wander and gawk at all of the treasures but were quick to answer any questions. We left with two very large shopping bags filled with amazing goodies. I promptly drove to UPS and shipped them home. The store's website can not transport the shopper to this international bazaar-like setting so drive to Yamhill Street, park the car in the large designated parking lot and make no plans for the next few hours. Enjoy!
