Our expert local guides will take you past the modern identity of Portland back to a more dangerous era, where murders, kidnappings, and organized crime could be found behind most of the elegant storefronts of the city. Listen to stories taken straight out of the true history of the last 150 years, and watch for yourself as the spirits of the past can still be seen today.

I have to admit I haven’t been to a lot of law enforcement museums but hubby is a retired LEO and I love history. Free admission (donations welcome) and spend about an hour reading and looking at everything. Really cool place!

I was pleased I found this small museum while I was visiting in Portland. The displays were so interesting, especially the "Arrest Logs" and the older, retired uniforms. I would say that it is a must visit for anyone with an interest in historical law enforcement. It is free to the public.

The Portland Police Museum is rather small, but also rather interesting. It is free. And it is open from 10 AM till 3 PM Tuesdays through Fridays. There are many old black and white photos of the old days of Portland. Several display cases of such things as police uniforms, old style hats like the Keystone cops used to were, handcuffs, guns, and various other items related to Portland Police history. I was surprise to see a photo of Babe Ruth and an autographed Babe Ruth Baseball. Another surprise was a display related to the TV show GRIMM. Now that was totally unexpected. There are a few souvenir items for sale. Pint glassed with a badge on them, T-shirts, and a few other items.

My husband and I visited this little history gem while researching his family. Plan your visit. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday from 10:00-3:00. Admission is free, and the staff was friendly and helpful. You can see a variety of police uniforms, badges, and tools of the trade used throughout Portland's history, dating in to the 1800's. They also have a fascinating history of women police and detectives.
