What a hike! For a surprise birthday adventure and to get outdoors after all the shelter in place, we went to Smith Rock on a Sunday morning. It is so windy in this area, at least in February, so be prepared! Masks are required past the bridge. The parking lots were almost all full but we didn't really see that many people! There is a 5.00 permit required by the way. The rock climbers are super cool to watch and take pictures of. We took the easy River trail which joins with the Misery Ridge (so tough!) trail. It is awe inspiring! However, it is not an easy hike at all. We hike frequently but this was a workout! The hike is worth the view, but wear good hiking boots/shoes and pack some water.

Smith State Park was high on my list when visiting the area for the weekend. And rightly so! I was advised to show up early on a Sunday and I'm glad I did! I showed up at 8am and easily got a parking spot. By 10am the park was packed though. I hiked for about two hours. I did the Wolf Tree Trail, which was pretty easy and very scenic, and the much more difficult Misery Trail, up a rock, but it was worth it as the view was spectacular. This park is absolutely breathtaking. Pictures so not do it justice. Make sure you visit this park when in town.

We stopped here on a whim. It was a beautiful scene. Great for hiking and amazing views or the giant rocks and river.

What a gorgeous place to see and visit. This is especially true when you take a horseback ride just the other side of the gorge with Complete Horsemanship, LLC, the Smith Rock ride. You cannot see this land any other way as the stables are on private property. The owner of the stables Brian Thomas is exceptional and professional. Great combination for a Great time. This location is just outside of Redmond, Ore.
