Architecture and history enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to this white, Greek-style building whose rotunda is topped with a gold leaf statue representing Oregon's first settlers. Inside are murals depicting state history, and outside are sculptures, gardens and grounds for strolling or picnicking.

This is a beautiful Capitol with great tours. One of the few Capitol's in the U.S. that does not have security to get in.

The grounds surrounding the capitol and the University are incredibly beautiful, even during the dormant months of winter. I particularly appreciate the WWII Memorial. Simplistic, but beautiful! The landscaping is flawless, the walk of flags is phenomenal, the water fountains are great for in summer. Amazing view from the top! Great place to have a picnic type lunch and the park.

There is metered parking on the north, south and west sides of the capitol. It's a little hard to find when legislators at in session.

Is there a public restroom around the Capitol grounds that is open on the weekends?

The rest room on the main floor is open when the building is open. Generally it's closed on the weekends. The closest otherwise is McDonalds.
