Though entrance to the Dalles Dam is only on Saturdays by way of a tour, the Visitor Center has information about fish and and other aspects of the dam. It also plays an 8-minute movie . They have a fun Junior Ranger program.

We stopped here while viewing the Dam and thought this was well organized and informative. It gave a concise and interesting history of the Dam and its' importance to the area. This is worth stopping to see.

Tours are currently offered on Saturday and Sunday by reservation. Our tour, led by Ranger Jim Day was fantastic. Very informative. Jim did a great job of answering many questions. The visitors center has interesting exhibits and a movie about the locks and dam.

A must do on your trip to Portland area...as well as Mt. Hood...the Dalles is a wonderment of nature and how it has carved it's way thru the landscape over the years...worth the drive...start early...the traffic can be a bit frustrating at times...great vistas...
