Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sad that it's becoming worse every day. Really run down and disappointing. I have never seen it open and I live close by. The area is very sketchy so I wouldn't waste time to even ride by and take a look from your car.

We wanted to do the Eldora Park tour for years and were on a waiting list with the smog museum. Our group of friends did this tour one weekend and it was well worth it! It's a really nice small museum with lots of history. The tour started out at the museum with a video, artifacts and information. It was presented in an interesting way. From there we drove to the location of the former park and were able to tour the land as they explained where everything used to be located when it was an amusement park. If you can take this tour I definitely recommend it if you like history or abandoned places!

Being from Donora I found the local history to be very interesting, especially all of the nostalgia. But on a grander scale it covers the raise and fall of the steel town in America very well. Also, quite a collection of Stan "the man" Musial memorabilia. The curator will gladly play reel to reel movie footage of his great games!

A trip to Donora PA must include a stop at the Smog Museum. A collection of artifacts of this dark time are displayed .. this is an educational experience.
Sometimes a resident of Donora is on site to discuss the tragic weather inversion which trapped deadly smog from the zinc works decades ago.
This museum is a tribute to the Donora of yesteryear. ....today the town is in deep decline with most of the town desserted
If you travel to the Mon Valley, a trip to the museum is a must.
Other than than the muesum....there is nothing else to see or do in Donora. It is a sad ghost town.

I had seen a show on the Weather Channel about Donora and the Smog Museum a few months ago. We live about 4-5 hours from there, so my husband and I planned an overnight trip to Pittsburgh and this was one of the attractions we wanted to visit. We got to the area later than planned on the first day, and I knew the museum closed at 3 PM. (at least that is what the guide book said) So, we went on to Pittsburgh and planned to hit it the next day. I called the next morning, to verify the hours, and the answering machine said they would be open 11 AM to 3 PM. We checked out of our hotel accordingly and got there at 11:30 AM. Only to find a sign on the door saying they were closed that day for a Community Picnic at some park! Could they NOT have put this on the answering machine a few days prior?? One day out of the year they are closed, and I happened to hit it? Needless to say, I was very disappointed at not being able to get in at all. It seemed the whole town was shut down. So, it was a wasted trip for me, and since it is quite a ride, I do not know if I will get there again. For a town/attraction in need of an economical boost, they dropped the ball. They could have made a few bucks off me. All I can say is, if you go, call ahead and TRY to get someone to return your call to verify hours. I realize the workers are volunteers, but since it was on TWC I'd think people would come. Especially since there are other tourist attractions within an hour or so of here.
