Teddy Roosevelt declared that this Italian Renaissance-style building was “the handsomest building I ever saw”. Indeed, the State Capitol, with its vaulted dome and grand staircase and the murals and painted floors inside, is thing to behold.

Most state capitol buildings are ornate and designed to well represent the government and elements of that state. Few capitol buildings, however, are visited by other state planners when they are considering updating or adding to their capitol as has been the case many times for this magnificent structure. The Pennsylvania State Capitol building is stunning in its marble-work, impressive... More

A magnificent monument with innumerable treasures: the grand staircase, Mercer tiles, the murals by Abbey, the paintings done by Violet Oakley, the stained glass windows (Van Ingen) are only the beginning.

When road tripping with the family we make it a point to visit each state's capitol building. While we do not go inside or take the formal tours we do visit the grounds outside the capitol and the PA capitol is another of the traditional classic dome structures with historical figures scattered around.

When we travel to a state capital city, we make it a point to visit and tour the Capitol. This was perhaps the most impressive of those visits to date. The building is quite impressive, and the free guided tour was very informative.

A very traditional state Capitol building. The dome is outstanding and is a must see if you are visiting Harrisburg. Very close to State art museum and the Susquehanna River walk.

We visited the capitol on our way back home from the Carolinas. As a native of Pennsylvania, it has been over 30 years since I visited the capitol. What a stunningly beautiful building with rich history. It is well-preserved and maintained. Nice grounds to walk around as well as you soak in Pennsylvania history. Tours available for free.

My 9 year old granddaughter and I took a tour of the capitol on a weekday afternoon. She had always lived about 2 hours from here but was moving to the midwest to start the new school year, so I thought a visit to our beautiful capitol would help her remember our summer. We waited for and missed the next... More
