About
The Flying Duck is a traditional Yorkshire Dales real ale and fine wine bar situated in Ilkley town centre. Unique in the area, the Flying Duck incorporates its own brewing facilities with the new Wharfedale Brewery located in a barn at the rear of the pub. The building dates back to 1709 and retains many of its original features including stone and oak wooden floors, beamed ceilings, exposed stone walls and real open fires. Between the pub and the brewery is a raised decked beer garden with an impressive viewing gallery. The Flying Duck serves nine cask real ales, real ciders, continental lagers, bottle beers from around the world and an extensive range of fine wines, whiskies and spirits.

Wonderful food
Jun 2021 • Couples
We called in for a drink and we were met by very friendly staff and were offered a taste of the drink before we bought it. Because they were so friendly we decided to try the food. We had three tapas which were really well presented and tasted lovely. Would really recommend this pub for the food and friendliness.

Father’s Day Sunday lunch- disappointed.
Jun 2021 • Couples
Father’s Day lunch with family. Really disappointed. Not normally one to complain but it was really bad. Long wait for food to arrive, Lukewarm and the mash potatoes tasted ‘off’. A well below Sunday lunch. However, staff were very friendly.

Long wait
Oct 2020 • Couples
Visited the Flying Duck on Friday around 3pm. Two other tables had recently arrived and had ordered just before us. When we ordered there was no warning that we may be in for a slight wait. We had a slightly chilly dog with us and, had we known, we would have decided to try somewhere else. We ordered and then waited for almost 2 hours for one burger and one veggie dog. The two other tables in the pub had similar experiences, one table having to make a complaint about the wait. When our food finally came there was no apology about the wait, even though we had had previously enquired about when it would arrive. There was also no explanation for the wait, maybe this was a normal wait for food at the pub. My partner enjoyed her veggie dog and my beef burger was slightly burnt. Average pub food, certainly not worth the bizarre wait. The lack of apology was probably most disappointing. Won't be returning, there will be other nearby pubs serving just as good food without the long wait.

Excellent Sunday Lunch
Aug 2020
We called in last Sunday as a family & I wanted to write a review of our experience. We had the Sunday roast beef (with starters and desserts) at a bargain price of £17.95 for three courses. The staff were friendly, efficient and are managing the new way of working with the corona-virus restrictions very well (the beer and wine spot on also).

Great to see the Duck Sunday Roast back!
Aug 2020
Booked a table for Sunday lunch at the Flying Duck and we what a feast! It's the first time we have been to the pub since it re-opened and they seem to have their social distancing measures well under control. A lot of other people seemed to have the same idea as the place was packed with diners. The lovely young waitress told us that they were a little understaffed as they weren't expecting so many walk ins and that there would be a delay. We were happy to wait and delighted to see that they have introduced some incredible value for money starters to the menu. It was all well worth the wait and the Wharfedale Blonde was spot on as per usual. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Out for lunch
Aug 2020
My daughter and I decided to go out for lunch and give the local business a help, called in at the Flying Duck for a few pre drinks, whilst looking at their menu decided to stay and eat there, so much to choose from! We had the ‘ gourmet hotdogs ‘ which were amazing! The best coleslaw I’ve ever had too! The staff were friendly and helpful and our meal was brought to us by the chef! Definitely be going back and 50% off food all through August, bonus!! 😆

Smashing pub with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Coping with the pandemic well. Very cosy and comfortable and a good selection of beers. Perfect place for a quiet drink. Great music on in the background too!

FABULOUS.
Feb 2020
I can’t believe that we have never tried this pub before, what an amazing place, it is full of history and character, yet it feels very welcoming and cosy.
We had the sausage and mash which was delicious, according to my husband the locally brewed beer he had was fantastic with plenty of further choice displayed on the bar.
Finally a place is only as good as the people who work there and we were served by two very polite and efficient gentlemen.
We shall be back and would certainly recommend a visit.

Dogs, Beer and cosy
Nov 2019
I liked this place from the outside so we headed on in. A small inn with two areas separated by a fireplace.

Basic warm, friendly pub and the first thing we noticed was there were alot of four legged friends in with their owners, many still wearing walking boots. That is the kind of place it is. A great selection of real ales and a very comforting place to sit and drink a decent pint with a bit of chat.Formidable.

Sunday lunch was a triumph
Nov 2019 • Family
Visited with my family for Sunday lunch, ages ranged from 7 to 70 and it was a hit with all of us!
A choice of meats, fantastic homemade Yorkshire puds, roasties, mash and a great selection of seasonal veg. Delicious!
The selection of desserts made it difficult to make a choice! The coconut raspberry tart served with custard (ice-cream and cream were also available) was absolutely delicious!
Great value, great service, friendly staff and a welcoming, warm atmosphere all made for a lovely Sunday lunch out.
Highly recommended!
