Not usually keen on audio tours but this was good. you need one and a quarter hours to do it properly but its very intersting. The audio machines worked well and you can stop and start them as you wish. Amazing old building tucked away behind the market place. Not often you can touch the exhibits, open drawers and sit... I didn't know this little museum existed until a few months ago which is strange as I have been to staircase house twice previously... definitely needs more advertising. Great for spending a couple of hours, lots of interactive areas for children and local history information for older children and adults. Free but we always leave a small donation to try... More

Stockport is a dormitory - fact. However in the mundane there is the history of our lives and this musuem is the place to make the average Stockport resident realise that dormitory doesn't mean insignificant or dull. Excellent displays of industry, sport (who knew George Best was County player!), education, local archeology and reconstructions of domestic rooms. For the party... More

It has many floors and lots on the history on the town and the strawberry display seems to be the most popular.

I visited for a particular reason and that was the 50th anniversary of the most excellent Strawberry recording studio. Located in the bottom floor, the music detail was great. The reason behind the opening of the studio, the bands of my youth being represented via image, recording and multimedia were a pleasure, invoking many happy memories of rocking like a... More

A fab museum, packed with information about the local area. Free to enter, Stockport Story Museum has four floors of displays. We especially enjoyed the collection of Victorian memorial/mourning items. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely local museum, covering so many aspects of Stockport's history, from brick making, coal mining, brewing, transport, the police, fire brigade and local sporting endeavours. A couple of lovely Lowry painings, and other local paintings, and loads for the children t0 do. Recommended.

Been here a couple of times with my child. Favourite activity is the dressing up section followed by the art work area. Child asked member of staff lots of questions and he lady gladly answered.
