- DavidUK2010York, United Kingdom328 contributionsInteresting siteThis is the first time visitor and have read reviews that some prefer the old market and set up. It is nicely placed and easy to get too. There are stall outside too. Inside it is set over two floors. Plenty of units selling goods etc. the food hall on the second floor can seat hundreds, hence why busy with college students at lunchtime as the prices are very reasonable. Once they hide the roofing, it will look more appealable. The interesting fact over other indoor markets, it was nice and warm. Some of the goods on offer was expensive, but sadly the smell from the pet shops lingered. Well worth a visit even if you want a quick walk round and a coffee. More toilets would help. There is some seating outside the eating hall which has 12 units.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 February 2024
- woodie49Brighton, United Kingdom1,018 contributionsBrilliant market, place to linger.I am in my seventies and so remember the old open air markets. I moved away in 1968 and of course all has changed. I was here on a visit and concerned that it would have become like all the other markets, mobile phone cases, knock off bags and such. But no, it hasn't, yes it has those, but much much more. Even the atmosphere is reminiscent of how it was. Stall after stall of quality fresh food. I wish it was near where I live now, there's nothing that cant be bought there. Loved it.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 August 2024

Upstairs there are cafes and food stalls where you can get lunch, ice creams and drinks. Nice bacon sandwich at Paul’s cafe.Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 September 2024
- jenkodonnyDoncaster, United Kingdom334 contributionsDay out to BarnsleyThe best market in South Yorkshire & beyond. Central Barnsley has had excellent investment in the later years. The market is a recent new building. The market is thriving even though other markets are in decline. Well worth a visit.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2024
- therichastillStevenage, United Kingdom3,527 contributionsA Bit Of EverythingI was visiting Barnsley with family and they told me about the new look market. It's next to the Glassworks Shopping Centre and well worth checking out. There are a wide variety of different foods available and also clothes available. There is a small travel centre where you can book coach trips and also a place to get all your sewing requirements. I was most impressed with the food court which has a wide variety off different stalls and a bar selling alcohol. It's incredibly popular as all the seats and tables were full so you know the food is good. There is also an outdoor veranda however on the day that we visited it was a bit wet so no one was making the most of this. Definitely a good place to go for a bargain.Visited December 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 December 2024
- Katrina DSheffield, United Kingdom252 contributionsDay outThe town has really been transformed . Te mmarket is the jewel in the crown. Clean, bright and airy . Everything that you could wish for is here. However , I found the upstairs eatery quite expensive and not so healthy . Parking close by .Visited January 2025Travelled soloWritten 3 February 2025
- MEGAMAN101Chester, United Kingdom14 contributionsGreat market but please reconsider some of your policies.I visited Barnsley market on the 1st February for the first time and was very impressed. Like a lot of northern towns there's been a great revitalisation of their weekly markets and Barnsley is no exception. Where it is the exception is there a policy of not allowing dogs in the market at all. Many markets, Doncaster , Chester Bury to name but a few welcome customers with dogs but sadly Barnsley has not really moved all the times in this respect. I sincerely hope the powers that be will reconsider their policy on this matter as they are bound to be losing trade.Visited February 2025Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2025

My first visit to the rebuilt Barnsley Market. Very different from the old one. Larger than I expected because most of the new indoor markets are downsized versions of their predecessors. This one is of a decent size, clean and on two floors, upstairs there is a large eating area.
The area around it has also been completely redeveloped. There is also a small outdoor nearby.
The whole pedestrian area in Barnsley is now protected by anti terrorism bollards.

What an indoor market. We have never visited one quite like this. It really is marvellous. Loads and loads of stalls or selling various produce and products. You can even buy a three piece suite. The top floor is given over to food outlets mainly and there is a terrace outside where you can sit in the fresh air and sunshine with a pint. Lots of different types of food available. The stall holders are very friendly. If you visit Barnsley I would recommend you go inside and have a look around for yourself you may be pleasantly surprised

Visited Barnsley Market to see how the refurbishment was progressing. Not sure if it is yet complete as adjacent development is still in progress. Nevertheless the current covered market area on two levels is now light and airy with a large number of stalls selling a wide range of products. Unfortunately there are still a number of vacant units inside, which it is hoped will gain occupants, perhaps from the stalls outside. The town has obviously made a good effort to provide an improved facility. Well worth a visit.

Been to Kay’s cafe this morning for bite to eat with my kiddies. After half an hour I went to check as I still hadn’t received my food, which was a very simple order. Non the less I understand when it’s busy orders can take time or be forgotten. I got told I would have to wait - for crumpets. So I sat and waited, in the end I asked for my money back and again all I got was disregarding attitude and dismissed and spoken To like dirt. By grown women. Terrible service. Shame aswell as I’ve eaten there before and food is ok. Never again, customer service is diabolical. The rest of the market is great, shame these have to let it down.

Great addition to the tarn centre.
Remember spending many a day in market as a young en with my parents, maybe becoming another staple for the next generations. Clean, helpful staff, friendly and relaxed environment.

It's such a good market! We bought some delicious bread from the bread stall, and some traditional baby clothes for a friend which she absolutely loved. It overall has a good vibe, friendly people and happy atmosphere. I will most certainly coming back again 😊

Baker stall - MARKET OVEN + butcher stalls are best in town, worth visit and making purchase. Always fresh and top quality. Bread is made from natural ingredients only, no chemicals added - just like grandma did.

I enjoy visiting markets and it was good to stroll round this busy scene which has the benefit, since the rebuild, of being fully indoors. The internal size is impressive, with a shiny new interior and escalators and it was a very busy scene on Saturday. However, a number of empty stalls were being used as temporary outlets for local organisation, other stalls simply unused and whilst the whole experience, including Christmas decor was very good, it is important to ensure maximum take up of space on a long term basis, as empty areas can be off putting and there is a lot of space to fill.

I really can't answer your question, my friend and i used a pay and display car park about 10 mins walk away from the centre of the town, i did notice there was a multi storey car park almost adjacent to the markets but as there was a lot of building work going on in the area i'm not sure if there are disable spaces near to the market.
