This is a lovely reserve with excellent visitor facilities. The reserve paths are hard and lead from one hide to another. One hide is not accessible to people in wheelchairs but there are others that can be accessed. The rear garden of the shop has loads of feeders where you can get close views of many common birds. Above the... More

A great day to spend a day! Friendly and informative staff/ volunteers offer a warm welcome (it was absolutely freezing outside!). The site is attractive with lakes, reedbeds and a selection of hides - including a great one for children. Also for the youngsters is a super playground (though did not test this one out!). There are kids' backpacks to... More

We have sampled the main meals and cakes before but this week we have made three visits just to taste the excellent home-made soups on offer. All were of top quality, hot and tasty! The staff are all helpful and pleasant to talk to. The café can get very popular at weekends but mid-week much quieter. This week we were... More

We had a great day out at old Moor where there was lots of wildlife to see, from birds and butterfly's to moths and frogs and toads. They have a very nice café serving some really good food that is reasonably priced

With all the water birds you can point a stick at (not that you would, even from the family hide), a chunky wooden play area, cafe, shop, a dipping pond, a children's explorer pack and all accessed from the trans-pennine cycle trail. How could this be better, well only if it were free to RSPB members - stop me, I... More

We continue to visit regularly. We like the flexibility of being able to take our own food for an outdoor picnic with the family but enjoy the excellent cafe when we are by ourselves. Annual Membership makes repeat visits excellent value and there is always so much to see and do.
