Disappointed with the cleanliness outside and in the water
Came here in the 6 weeks holidays for the first time since I was a kid with my own kids and partner last year and had a great time. The place was clean and the changing facilities were not perfect but good enough. We came back at Christmas to use the bowling alley which was also great and good price. However, when we came back two days ago for a half term trip out I was a little bit disappointed, especially where cleanliness was concerned. We arrived a little early and was asked to wait outside come back in 10 minutes which is fair enough. However, there was nowhere outside decent to wait as we were met with rubbish and loads of cigarette ends and the place stunk. I’m absolutely certain it wasn’t like that before when we’ve arrived in the past. It was really unpleasant 10 minutes. Changing rooms were fine, nothing major again, quite well maintained considering it’s small and used by a lot of people male and female. We got out into the pool was lovely and warm ,plenty to do as usual and the kids loved the waves and rainbow slides. Then everything started going down hill and actually a safety issue in my opinion. A big plastic sweatie bag went near my face in the water when the wave machine was on which obviously really grossed me out. I thought that was the only one but when I took my youngest child to play by the skull I saw even more sweat wrapper rubbish floating around. I asked my kids to be careful when putting their heads in water or opening their mouths and as there’s much smaller children in that pool I think that’s a choking hazard. I couldn’t work out where it was all coming from as surely people don’t go in to the pool with food? We like coming here as it’s close to where we live and fair price, but I think rubbish in the pool and little foil wrappers for safety certainly needs addressing so this is more constructive criticism. And more attention needs paying to the cleanliness outside the building

Please dont charge Fees for 9 month old and below
Visited here today, myself (adult and my 3 children) and a 9 month old. I paid for the family ticket for 1 adult and 3 children as I didn't realise I had to pay for my 9 month old as I had paid my ticket fee and my 9 month old cannot walk or use any of the facilities. I disagree paying a fee because of that reason if they cannot walk they're in the floaty next to an adult whom has paid the fee and therefore must stay next to that baby whom again cannot use the facilities. Im not sure of anywhere else that charges a fee for a 9 month old or below?? My two oldest kids had fun on the flumes the waves added a nice touch for my four year old as she cannot go on the flumes and there were much more room in the lane pool for general fun rather than squeezing in the pirate pool. Im generally happy with the trip but gave 3 star for the reason of charging the fee for a non walker!

    GREAT POOL FOR THE KIDS.
Our first visit. We took the grandchildren aged 8 and 10 to the splash park. The place was easy to get to from the town ring road. Ample free car parking next to the centre. Admission was quick and efficient. The changing room was spacious and clean. Although we attended at a busy time the pirate themed Calypso Cove pool didn't seem overly crowded and queues for the slides were not long although the Eruption slide was closed. We didn't go in the pool with the children who can both swim. It was free for us to go in and there was a viewing gallery called the Crows Nest where we could sit and keep an eye on them. The children really enjoyed the pool.

    Enjoyed it but not amazing
Was apprehensive due to the reviews on here Isn’t my favourite pool we’ve ever been to but my six year old really enjoyed it I would say it’s wear and tear compared to dirty. It does feel dated The changing rooms aren’t great and we had to wait to get a cubicle The pool is cooler than most but not cold The slides are great although the red one wasn’t open. It was very busy Would def come again but won’t be rushing back

    Too busy!
I went here when I was a kid, it’s not changed an ounce- I’m in my late 30’s now! It was the school holidays so I expected it to be busy but this was like a whole new level! It just felt unsafe- people on top of each other. On a whole our kids enjoyed it, maybe you don’t notice the chaos when you are little but there aren’t enough family changing cubicles or space In the main pool. I wouldn’t rush back!
Thank you for your review and feedback, The waterpark is extremely popular and does get busy, particularly at peak times. Not great but not bad- average
Travelled from York as the website made it look like a fun place to visit. The visit was average. £40 for a family of 4 for 90 minutes which I thought was a bit expensive considering. One slide, the diving pool and the large pool were closed when we visited which was disappointing. It was extremely busy, there was too many people in there for the first hour although it did quieten down slightly for the last 30 mins. I know it’s the school holidays but surely they limit the amount of people they let in? On the plus side the water was warm, the changing rooms were clean and the lifeguards seemed to be very watchful. The kids enjoyed it but I don’t think I’d make the trip again.

Better than expected given the reviews!
We booked for two adults and 2 children aged 12 and 10 but then having read some reviews, were a little dubious. Took about an hour for us to get there, easy to find and a large but quite full car park. Had to queue for a few minutes but lady on the counter very helpful. The changing area was big and we found cubicles and lockers without any issues, you do need a £1 coin for your locker. The pool areas were vast and although busy, didn't feel overcrowded. We all really enjoyed the slides, one wasn't in use but 3 of us wouldn't have gone on anyway. Showers were clean but worth noting you need to keep your hand on it to prevent the water stopping so not sure washing your hair would be too easy. Good choice on vending machine on the way out amd if closer we would be back but quite a long way for 90 mins.

It was fine for one visit with little kids (17 months old and a 5 year old). They had a blast, but we won’t be rushing back. Too dirty (that includes the pools and the changing rooms), not warm enough (though not as cold when we went as what some reviewers experienced). No private showers and you have to keep one hand on the shower so the water flows!? Try washing a toddler! Or your hair.. why are they like that? Remember £1 coins for the lockers as nor the booking email nor the website mention those are needed. The wave pool was good with strong waves - just don’t try assessing the cleanliness of the water..

Overall not as horrific as some reviews make it look but we won’t be coming back due to the issues mentioned.

First time here in about 25 years, we usually go to Doncaster Dome as it's closer but my son requested to go here. He's a none swimmer so slightly more for him to do here than at Doncaster but I won't be rushing back. It was way way too overcrowded, they really need to reduce how many people they are letting in at once, you're constantly shoulder to shoulder with people in the pools so there's no room to enjoy yourself and I don't know if it was just me but I found the pools too cold (though Doncaster is just as cold). On the plus side my son enjoyed it at the end of the day but I'll stick with going to Doncaster as it's far less crowded and cheaper.

Calypso cove. Visited Sunday 21st Jan. Haven’t been in years so was looking forward to our visit with our young family.
My 8 year old loved it. First time on slides and went round and round. That was all the positives.
Negatives: there were 100s there - stuffed in like cattle. The large wave pool, you were literally shoulder to shoulder with other swimmers. I know it’s the busiest time of the week but surely they have limits of capacity. It was awful just stuffed in with no space to move. You need personal space and even more so in a pool environment. It was more than uncomfortable. We went to the less fun lanes pool which defeated the point of visiting really.
The main reason for my review is we all became ill after our visit. As adults we noticed sore eyes during the evening and as the week went on developed into conjunctivitis infections and both our children developed bad coughs and had to go to the doctors with inflamed ear infections and are on antibiotics. There is no real proof it came from here but too much of a coincidence. Won’t be returning.

This wasn’t our first visit to Calypso Cove but it will be our last. There is a noticeable deterioration in both surroundings and experience. The first thing that hits you when you walk into the changing facilities isn’t the smell of chlorine and cleaner, as you would expect from such a facility. Instead you are met with a strong smell of stale urine. It is very unpleasant and makes the whole changing experience really quite difficult; we didn’t want to touch anything as it was obvious the place isn’t clean.
We got changed as quickly as we could and moved to the pool area. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t improve. The whole place needs some TLC; loose tiles and peeling paint are the norms now. We decided to try and make the best of our day as the kids were excited about the pool and slides. Here we arrive at our main complaint…all of the pools are very cold. Even the toddler pool, which was ankle deep and the one place you would expect warm water, was unbearably cold. Our poor two year old was shivering, despite how much she was moving around in the water. I definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone brings an under two here as that age group is particularly vulnerable to cold water and needs to be at least 32 degrees Celsius. The water at Calypso Cove was obviously well below that.
They also admit far too many people…think people being forced to brush past each other just to get in or out of the pool. Aside from the hygiene concerns it must be safety issue for the lifeguards to be able to work effectively; it must be a nightmare trying to spot people in difficulty. Indeed, I can only imagine it makes accidents more likely to occur with so many people cramped into the pools.

The place is a total dive (no pun intended). Overcrowded, dirty and imposing ridiculous rules. Chewing gum stuck on the floor around the pools and on the stairs upto the slides. Parents not allowed to wait in the pool whilst their kids jump off the diving board. You have to be able to swim 2 lengths of the big pool in order to be allowed to swim in the Calypso Cove resulting in the shallow end being severely overcrowded. Overall, the entire place is in dire need of some TLC. It needs to invest in some cleaners and most importantly, lifeguards over the age of 12.

Extremely rude and actively unhelpful member of staff (young lad). Asked me to provide 'proof' of my son being able to swim to use the diving boards, having already witnessed him jump 5 times from both the 1 meter and 3 meter and swim without issue back to the ladder to get out. Additionally, no other children had been asked to provide proof of ability to swim to use the boards (although they appeared similar age), and in any event this would be impossible as clearly no one carries swim certificates with them for a day out... He then forcefully stopped my son from using the board by putting his arm in front of his face, seemingly taking pleasure in the 'power' he had to do the same. My son very upset by this, obviously.

In one word AVOID! Came from Sheffield don’t know the area. Ended up booking on a match day, no where on their website does it say it’s near a football ground and to avoid at home matches, a 45 minute journey took more than 2 hours. Both slips roads closed to get to it. Which are the only ways sign posted. 3 different council workers asked and couldn’t tell us how to get to it. Last person we asked finally explained the right way. Diversion signs are poor and it needs better signage on match days. If that’s not bad enough leaving when they close at 5 is near enough impossible. From cars queing to get out. Night mare avoid at all costs. Should have stuck to Doncaster dome. Customer service inside is near enough none existant like we should check, they can’t help the roads, marketing don’t put it online as it will stop people booking. Well don’t book on match days is my advice. Can’t tell you what it’s like in side as we didn’t go in they wanted me to pay again to enter, at 50% off.

Went with wife and my children. Had a very bad experience. No life jackets for the kids if you want one you have to buy one for £25. Staff were extremely miserable and rude. Got really bad attitude from one of the girls that works there, when I asked her what her name was she literally told me "you don't need to know!" If the manager is reading this is the short girl that wears glasses with a black frame. She spoilt our whole experience. Will never come back.
