Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We rented the chateau for our wedding this past weekend and we are floored beyond words. Caution! This is not the place if you are expecting to be waited on hand and foot like in a hotel, where you can trash the place, or treat people disrespectfully. The chateau is an ancient relic of the region and a living, breathing member of the Nadaillac family. Alix, Jean, and their son Henri were extremely kind and welcoming and immediately took us in as family. It is evident this chateau is a familial labor of love. The impeccable decor, the plethora of gardens, the nature and all of the chateau’s wildlife are meticulously cared for. As mentioned, the place is ancient but even thus we did not encounter a single spiderweb and found our feet rather clean even after walking barefoot. Alix and Henri were with us the entirety of the weekend and their gentleness, selflessness, and hard work is not something we will ever forget. This must be the last place in the entire world that is like this. The chateau and grounds themselves are too stunning to describe. Walking into the Chateau de Poudenas immediately was like being transported into a fairytale - one where the world is kinder, slower, more beautiful, full of tenderness and magic, and where one can unveil some of the mysteries of the world.

We, a group of 7 friends, spent a week at Le Bastion du Prince Noir in Poudenas. The Bastion is part of the Chateau 'complex," but is quite separate and very private. It could easily have accommodated a group twice the size of ours, and was very comfortable. It has a good sized and well equipped kitchen, a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, inside and outside dining areas, a huge living room, a study/TV room, a swimming pool, a big lawn, views, etc. Everything you could want, and while fairly simply furnished, all quite elegant. Our host and hostess (Count and Countess Jean and Alix de Nadaillac...their family has been there since the 13th century) couldn't have been nicer, more friendly, more welcoming, or more helpful. They gave us a tour of the Chateau, complete with wine and hors d'oeuvres, gave us restaurant recommendations, provided us with walking maps, etc.

The Chateau overlooks a river, farmland, and the small town of Poudenas, which consists of some houses and a pizza restaurant (which was closed when we were there). This is a very rural area, a mix of forest and farmland, with little towns every couple of kilometers. There are weekly (morning) markets in a number of the towns, including Mézin, which is 4.5 kilometers (5 minutes) away. Mézin also has a small grocery store, 3 bakeries, a pharmacy, a butcher, a traiteur, etc. Except for the grocery store and perhaps the pharmacy, all of these close after lunch until about 4pm, so plan your shopping accordingly. There are also a number of huge supermarkets...Intermarché, Carrefour, SuperU, Lidl...pretty close by in Nerac, Condom, etc.

Right from the Chateau you can walk and/or bike for miles on paths through the woods, on woods roads, farm roads, tiny paved roads, etc. You can also go down the hill (quite steep) from the Chateau to the village, go across the river and walk/bike for miles there.

If you are a large group, or a family group, you couldn't pick a better place to use as a base to explore the area...or just to sit by the pool, go for walks, play ping pong, etc. It is quite wonderful.

Just arrived back from a wedding at this beautiful Chateau. The views are simply amazing from this place. A wonderful venue for a wedding and we’d love to visit again for a tour around.

We spent a week there last summer with friends and family, it was absolutely amazing. The house, within a big private park, is big and comfortable, and the swimming pool is just perfect.
The area is lovely and there are plenty of things to do - walks, bike, nice little restaurants in the heart of Gascony... The owners, who live in the castle, are of very good help to guide you.
I will probably go there again soon.

I had the great fortune to participate in a family wedding in this magnificent domain of Château de Poudenas. Not enough words to describe the place as sumptuous. What's more, Jean, Alix and Henri always available in the last moments to make the reception unforgettable. The castle is splendid, the park is magnificently maintained and the view over the valley is breathtaking. In short, a place that you won't forget, and I can only recommend this place.
