Stumbled across an advert for Santa at Helston Railway by chance and so glad I did. Superb volunteers made our trip a day to remember both during the visit with the Big Man In Red and his helpers and the subsequent train ride where the three children were invited to ride on the foot plate so had the best views... Great afternoon trip out , they have a great dining car which stays on site , great food really cosy , nice in general . The train trip is a brake van and a small diesel shunter type train going a short distance then coming back , it's a good afternoon out Maybe if they had more info on the... More

We have just returned from our annual family visit to see Santa at Helston Railway. Father Christmas was magical, excellent with children of all ages and the gifts were perfect. Topped off with a trip in the guards van, spectacular views outside and warmed by the little stove inside, a lovely way to start the festive season. The volunteers are... More

This railway is steadily making progress to restore a significant section of the old Helston branch, which has been closed for over 50 years. There is much enthusiasm, and you could see that the kids on half term were having a good time. At £7 (adult) for a two mile trip it may seem expensive, but I enjoyed the general... More

This was a great little trip out. The stretch of track the train goes along is not long (yet) but it's good fun. My 5 year old got to wave the flags and apply the brake too, and they are hoping to extend the track and rebuild some of the trainstop buildings. Had some lovely bacon butties in the cafe... More

Visited this heritage railway for the first time and had a really enjoyable time. The volunteers were helpful and very friendly which contributed to the success of our visit. We had a snack in the buffet which was very nice and then a short ride on the train. Judging by the smiles and laughter of the other visitors and children... More

My first real visit to this railway was a few weeks back as a New Volunteer, I can only say that this new up and coming Heritage Railway has got some of the most Enthusiastic, Hard Working, Kind People you will find at any railway. They may not have a 16 mile railway, but what they have is what other... More

Visited here as we got a bit lost! The entrance is through a farm but don't let that put you off. The Helton railway is good place to visit. They've only got a small section of track completed and the ride on the train is about 10 minutes each way. Which for us with two small children was just about... More

So pleased we found this. Only a short visit as not much there apart from the railway and the journey is about 20 mins. It is a fantastic journey though on the breaker car and the staff are all really friendly. Recommend it if you are in the area with an hr to spare.

Thank ZWellington
