After the end of Lockdown 2 we were looking forward to going out for a few drinks. I am totally aware of the hard times that pubs are having in these trying times but our experience really wasn't good. Simon and Lisa (the landlord and landlady) were pedestrian to say the least. With minimal amount of customers, service was slow. The prices are not competitive at all, a normal for a Punch pub I know, but when you order five ports and you can only serve four after all the time the pub has been closed, this really isn't good enough. I was told the ladies toilets were also shabby with only one of the three having toilet tissue. I know times are hard but you must learn to help yourselves when trade is so intermittent. First impressions are just that and the feeling of 'zero interest' (maybe caused by pressure from the community covid enforcer who had visited earlier ) was very noticeable. Not good and this pub really needs to buck up as what trade they do have will go elsewhere and also save a considerable amount of money. After all, £174 for 5 people drinking from 1845 to 2200 is quite extortionate for this town.…

In response to your review dated the 6th December... Regarding the cost for 5 people drinking – What you fail to mention is that in the timescale you mentioned you had eight rounds of drinks between you, plus the four Ports which you also mentioned. I totalled both your bills together and this came to £165. This works out at less than £4.00 per drink and considering one drink was from our Craft Beer range and the other was a double vodka & bottled tonic I do not believe that this is excessive. We do not claim to be the cheapest pub in Helston but believe with the recent refurbishment, quality of available drinks, heated beer garden, etc. that our prices are very reasonable. We cannot compete with Wetherspoons and other free house pubs that attempt to, and we have no desire to do so. With reference to the unkind comments about myself & Lisa – You said that it was quiet however we still had approx. 50 guests to serve, including yourself. We managed to serve them all including yourselves and it works out you received a round of drinks every 15 minutes that were served to your table. Table service is something that has been imposed on us and it is not easy to serve both indoor & outdoor with no staff. At times it did get difficult due to 2 tables not wanting to leave at 11 pm, one of which was yours. I recall that you told me to ‘chill’ as they are not strict with the law. After the year we have had and the fact as a pub we attempt to follow the law to the letter, to put us in this position is both unfair and unacceptable. I know that you took offence when you initially arrived as I mentioned to you that your wife would require a face covering. Your wife returned to the car to fetch her face covering. Our toilets are not shabby. We accept that the middle cubicle had run out of toilet paper, but this was only noted the following morning. If we had been advised at the time we would have replenished. Finally, the comment regarding Port. We sell truly little and unfortunately, after this year and the fact we have had to pay considerable rent and associated costs to our pub company when closed, we have had to reduce some of our offerings. We still have a large selection of choice, but unfortunately, as with all pubs, we do run out from time to time. Thank you for your visit, however, we find it upsetting that you can choose to post such a negative and inaccurate review at such a difficult time for the pub industry in general. Regards, Simon Pressland - Landlord of The Bell Inn

This is a cracking 'proper' pub, the place it would be good to call your local. Really friendly staff, good well kept beer and even a very friendly pub dog! At the rear of the pub is a stepped and covered patio area leading down to the garden complete with a kids area. Ideal place to chill out and have a nice quiet drink in good company.…

Will definitely be returning. Friendly management and staff. Superb Roast. I even squeezed in a beautifully light, summery, Strawberry Sundae. 10/10 (well 5/5 it is trip advisor). Worth visiting.

It was a wet Saturday night and friends and I didn’t think we would find anything to eat. We came in here and the very friendly landlord said we could order from Boo Koos across the road and eat in the pub. We ordered our food and Boo Koos said they would deliver (separate review) and we just sat in comfort having a drink and the food was delivered. Lovely local pub and we were made to feel very welcome. Thank you. …
