Brief, quaint little train trip. Beautiful countryside at a gentle pace. Limited parking available at Looe station, but good value if you do get a space. About 3/4 mile walk into Liskeard from station, not convinced it was worth the effort 😏.

Taking the Looe Valley Line is almost like taking a journey back in time. If you are travelling from Liskeard station the platform for this line is off to the side and perpendicular to the main line. This harks back to when it was built as a separate line pre-nationalisation. There are old style signs telling you about the history of the line at the station and a decent waiting shelter. The only modern thing about the line was the train itself which is fairly modern (it was built in the 1980's) but has wifi, disabled toilet and charging points for your phone/laptop. The journey down to Looe is beautiful. From Coombe Junction where the train reverses, to Looe I would recommend you sit on the right hand side facing forwards so you can enjoy the river as it widens and meanders towards the coast. There is a guard on the train to answer any questions you may have or sell you a ticket if necessary. A lazy, lovely way to travel.…

We got on the train at Liskeard waiting for it to pull away only for it to be cancelled. We had to wait just over an hour for the next one. No help whatsoever from the station staff. They would not even get us a cab to Liskeard so we could get to Looe by bus (even though we had 3 children with us). We will never use this line again after a few issues. Will drive in future.…

Response from DCRP, Public Relations Manager at Looe Valley Line

Sorry to hear about these difficulties and for the inconvenience caused. Unfortunately issues can arise with the train service from time to time. Sadly it seems this was compounded with some crossed wires about the bus. The bus stop for Looe is only a few yards from the railway station (next to the Old Stag pub) so there is no need to go back into Liskeard town centre to get the bus. Hope this information is useful for other readers but appreciate that this advice comes too late for your recent journey. Apologies again for your unsatisfactory trip.
