About
The museum is housed in a Georgian building on Fore Street. It was originally the Corn Exchange and has also been a school-room, a butchers, then a magistrate's court and the town jail. Nowadays the building houses the Guildhall, which is used for meetings of Lostwithiel Town Council, above the museum. The museum was founded in 1972 and it is now is now a fully accredited museum and a registered charity, which is run entirely by volunteers. During the summer season the museum organise weekly guided Heritage Walks around Lostwithiel. No prior booking is needed for these regular walks, which last about 90 minutes. Although the museum is small (only a few rooms) there are a large number of interesting exhibits on the history of the area crammed in. The staff are very friendly and keen to provide additional information. There is no charge for entry but donations are welcome.

The museum has a really fascinating collections with some great objects including an 18th century fire engine. there are also a couple of trails for children and a family history research area. It also organises heritage town walks and there's a book of local walks that take you further afield. Friendly volunteers - the museum is free and relies on donations. Lostwithiel is also a beautiful historic town with a castle and some great independent shops. A bit of a hidden gem in Cornwall.

There is not a lot of room in here so not suitable for large groups. The little museum is packed with exhibits, domestic articles, old tools etc. The industrial and mining history of the area is interesting. The volunteer on duty was helpful, and I bought some leaflets for local walks.

Certainly worth half an hour but limited opening hours might be a problem. This presumably due to relying on volunteers.

A small museum just in 2 rooms with the back room being the old jail. An interesting mix of social history of the area. Worth a visit for 20/30 minutes. Friendly staff. Donations welcome.

This very interesting local history museum can be found just off the A390 in Fore Street. It is full of old documents & artifacts which relate to this ancient town & the surrounding area, well worth a visit.
