Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens is relatively unknown and yet possibly...

Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens is relatively unknown and yet possibly one of Cornwall's loveliest gardens. Situated in St Austell, Pinetum Park is 30 acres of well maintained and manicured gardens, offering 12 different garden styles and more than 6000 varieties of plants. One of the big selling points of the garden is that nearly all of our plants are labelled and whilst you can expect to find the usual Cornish suspects of camellias, rhododendrons and alike, there are many exotic varieties vying for your attention.

Pinetum Park is in fact a series of gardens, all offering something different throughout the year. As the name suggests there is a Pinetum, a collection of 80 conifers set in four acres of land, this is a truly majestic and magical part of the garden, that takes your breath away on first glance. Not all conifers are evergreen and some produce wonderful autumnal colours, whilst others produce fir cones as big as rugby balls, making autumn an amazing time to visit.

Whilst it would be worth visiting Pinetum Park for the conifers alone, there is so much more to see including a beautiful Winter Garden, planted to showcase the best of winter plants, all were chosen for their beautiful winter flowers, bark and coloured foliage and lots of scented leaves. There are also many heathers, hundreds of bulbs and some very unusual evergreen trees.

The gardens also boast a Zen inducing Japanese garden, that features an authentic Japanese tea house and nearly every plant in the garden is grown from seed that were donated by the Kyoto Botanical Gardens in Japan, after a visit their many years ago by the garden creators.

Pinetum Park is a relatively new and unusual garden, started 30 years ago by some local, horticulturists who set about travelling the world to collect seeds and plants to establish this remarkable garden. Now, well established, the gardens are open throughout the entire year and with so many plants to see, there is something to admire no matter what time of year you visit. The garden also has a tea room serving morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea, a well stocked farm shop, full of delicious and well priced Cornish produce and a small nursery selling plants, all worth visiting in their own right.

95% of our garden can be accessed by mobility scooters and wheelchairs. You can hire a mobility scooter from the ticket office.

A wonderful surprise, conveniently close to St Austell but you feel like you are in another world. Peaceful surroundings, acres of gardens and space, lots to see even in winter. And if that isn't enough the food in the cafe was delicious and the staff friendly and welcoming. A lovely place to visit!

Beautiful setting, oodles of space and the vision of one lady shines through in the range of themes throughout the gardens. Particularly liked the Winter garden, but something for everyone. Much more of a private garden than something created for the tourist market, tranquil, delightful and well worth a few hours spent walking through the various elements of the gardens.... More

A wonderful park of gardens, lawns and woodland with splashes of water here and there. So much space and freedom for the visitor to enjoy and explore by the young and the older ones alike. Good parking available and an excellent tea room that offers a great menu choice. Because we bought an annual membership, we get 10% off all... More

We visited these gardens in Winter, so wondered how nice it would be. It was lovely! It's well worth a visit, even in winter. The winter garden and jungle areas in particular were nice. We liked looking for the Soul Bird as we walked around. All the staff we met were polite and helpful, as was the gardener we spoke... More

Had a super time exploring the various gardens that are really well set out and beautifully kept. Lots of winding paths/stepping stone tree stumps/statues and water features to keep all amused and interested in seeing what is around the corner. We thoroughly explored the whole site and were there for a good 3 hours or so. The cafe served delicious... More

My first visit to these wonderful gardens. We spent a couple of hours exploring all the different gardens and visit the tea rooms for lunch. Food and service was excellent. Our experience was so good we have taken an annual membership and look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Having just moved to St Austell, I decided to get a locals pass so that I can visit the gardens whenever I like. What a truly enchanting place to visit. The gardens are so well kept and beautifully laid out. I aim to visit very often from now on to walk the dog through the 30 acres (although not all... More
