My sister and I have just completed a 3 day diploma workshop with Julia. She is extremely patient, and a magnificent teacher. She has so much experience in metal clay of all types that you pick up loads of extra hints and tips over and above the course material. The workshop is well laid out and fully equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our course, and although it was a challenge at times, Julia was always supportive and helpful & got us through a few hiccups whilst always remaining calm and reassuring. Cannot recommend this enough!! If you want to do a course in metal clay with one of the best in the business, this is the place to go. Thanks Julia for a great course. We'll be back in the future, no doubt....

I completed the level 1 diploma in art clay last week with Julia. It was a fantastic 3 days. Full on and intense but amazing at the same time! Julia took us through all the steps we needed to complete each piece and at each stage calmly and methodically. Even when our rings broke for the umpteenth time, Julia just calmly reminded us what we needed to do to repair the piece and why it had broken in the first place. I learnt so much!
I would thoroughly recommend, if you're thinking of undertaking the art clay diploma course, to learn under Julia Rai.

I recently completed my art clay level 1 diploma with Julia. She is an amazing, highly skilled teacher with a lovely, friendly personality. I chose to do this on a one to one basis which is a great option to have if you can’t make timetabled sessions. Julia provides a really comfortable, organised working environment so you have everything to hand that you need to complete your projects. The three days were well structured to maximise the use of working time and she gave me regular updates on my progress. I had quite a few ‘oops’ moments but Julia was really encouraging and patient. I have learned much more than I anticipated and enjoyed every minute of it - I had a hoot! I’d highly recommend her if you are looking to undertake the art clay diplomas.

Don’t dither, just book it! I cannot recommend this experience highly enough - I’m so glad I did it.

I was nervous coming into the classroom on my first day, but Julia has a way about her that could put anyone at ease. Looking back, I am amazed at how much I learnt over the six days, improving in both skills and confidence as the course progressed. Don’t get me wrong, I made mistakes, plenty of them, but with Julia (and her wealth of experience) sat beside me all the way, I was shown how to correct things and that was the best gift of all. Working one-on-one with Julia, getting a real feel for the art clay in all its states, was invaluable. And I mustn’t underestimate the incidental things I picked up along the way, like effective drying of the clay, clay shrinkage, clay reconstitution, good work area skills, proper kiln use, etc., all of which added such a lot to the depth of knowledge and confidence I walked away with.
I left the course after the six days fizzing with ideas, faith in my skills to carry them out (+ repair my inevitable mistakes!), and having greatly enjoyed the company of an immensely talented artist. It was a privilege Julia, thank you.

I have just completed the Art Clay Level 1 Diploma with Julia Rai at the CSACJ. In this 3-day course you use fine silver clay to make 2 rings, two pendants, a pair of earrings and a brooch. There is good tuition and mentoring as you go and Julia is informative and patient. However, this is not for the complete beginner because It is fast moving and requires a reasonable knowledge of the use of metal clay before you go. Highly recommended.

Recently enjoyed a fun 3 days at CSACJ on the Art Clay diploma level 1. Julia is a great tutor and very patient. It was nice to be in a spacious light studio, everything you needed was at your fingertips. This was a private 121 tutored course and would definatley recommend it to those budding metal clay artist who have some experience in working with the material, as it is an intense 3 days.

We were total novices to silver clay, but with Julia's skilful explanation and guidance my daughter and I made several beautiful silver pieces of jewellery each. It was a full day, gaining different methods of the use of the clay. Well worth the two and a half hour round trip we made.
